Telling | Ursula K Le Guin
7 posts | 9 read | 1 reading | 8 to read
From award-winning author Ursula K. Le Guin comes a highly anticipated addition to her acclaimed Hainish cycle, "a social anthropology of the future, fascinating and utterly believable." (Peter S. Beagle) Once a culturally rich world, the planet Aka has been utterly transformed by technology. Records of the past have been destroyed, and citizens are strictly monitored. But an official observer from Earth named Sutty has learned of a group of outcasts who live in the wilderness. They still believe in the ancient ways and still practice its lost religion--the Telling. Intrigued by their beliefs, Sutty joins them on a sacred pilgrimage into the mountains...and into the dangerous terrain of her own heart, mind, and soul.

Pickpick

I'm glad I reread this -- I wasn't ready to appreciate all of it when I read it as a kid. Like so much of Le Guin's writing, it's brimful of quiet strength and dignity. And ah, Yara's solution to what happened to him and what would have to happen. Ah.

I am barely reading because my sister confiscates everything I start to make me study. The pile is growing. She's very good at catching me...

#ReadingResolutions #Orange @Jess7

Since my unread books are in the front, most of these are on my #MountTBR: Run with the Horsemen, The Shelters of Stone, WLT A Radio Romance, and North and South.

So sorry to hear that Ursula Le Guin has passed. Here is an example of her brilliance. A response to a request to blurb the first book of a sci-Fi series that was not fit to print. 💪🏽❤️

Moonpa @SilversReviews @Lcsmcat @AmyG @Tamra Well, it‘s a lost cause! My friend who works in the same building as the library, just emailed me that the monthly mammoth book sale was set up - she has an “in” so we can shop early!! Yay Books!! 7y

"The margin between collusion and respect can be narrow," is an incredibly important message right now.
