How to Drink
How to Drink | Victoria Moore
6 posts | 3 read | 3 to read
In the past few decades, many of us have become sophisticated about food, but we have not given the same attention to what we drink. In How to Drink, Victoria Moore aims to redress the balance, by showing how to drink well throughout the seasons and at all times of day. She explains how to make the most delicious coffee and juices; how to choose wine that complements your food; and how to make cocktails for every occasion--whether to serve a garden barbecue, as a cold weather aperitif, or just to unwind with at the end of the day. Here are recipes for mint juleps in the spring, sloe gin in the autumn, hot buttered rum in the winter, and year-round showstoppers including the world's best gin and tonic. Moore is also an impassioned advocate of unfairly maligned drinks such as sherry, Campari and saki, and gives fascinating historical background on different spirits as well as invaluable advice on creating your home bar. How to Drink is a hugely readable, browseable and authoritative handbook, whose aim is to inform, entertain and crucially, make sure you can find the right drink at the right time. "It doesn't need to be either difficult or expensive to drink as well as you eat, it just requires a little care..." "A splendid book. Victoria Moore is quite right--it's not how much you drink but how you drink." --Fergus Henderson, chef and co-owner, St. Johns Restaurant "I loved How to Drink. For the first time in years I have broken open a bottle of vodka for a Bloody Mary, remembered how much better mulled cider is than mulled wine, drawn a fresh kettle for tea..." --Joanna Weinberg, author of How to Feed Your Friends with Relish "Anyone who loves their food should heed this unmatchable tutorial in the art of enjoying drink; Victoria Moore succinctly puts every sip in lively context, banishing the guilt from the pleasure of it all." --Rose Prince, author of The New English Kitchen

A few favorite cocktail books from my beverage books & bar shelves. There are sure to be plenty of tasty drinks made with #tequila in these.

Definitely buying this one! It is full of good tips about beverages from whiskey to tea and even includes some recipes. I really enjoyed the artful touches throughout the book and that she really makes a point to focus as much on our drinks as our food. The only thing that was lacking was beer talk and I feel like these days there are some beautifully crafted beers worthy of a few pages in a book of this kind. Overall a pick for me! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A day late for #InMyMug, but pondering my choices from The Copper Kettle Tea Bar & reviewing the relevant section in How to Drink.
Recommending this delightful collection of tips on how to fully enjoy every sip of wine, juice, cocktail, coffee, or tea. The chapter on winter seems made for #Hygge! Thanks again to @DebinHawaii #NewYearReads

I would have to say a cup of tea, but of the blended, green or herbal variety. I enjoy it hot or iced. 🍵📚 #bookanddrink @monkeygirlsmama

Day 17 #JuneBookBugs #cheers Here are most of my books about cocktails & mixed drinks (I also have books about wine, cheese, tea, coffee & other random party/entertaining books). Posed with my favorite shot glasses (belonged to my parents) & tiki glasses with drink stirrers ( I collect them). The lighting is not so good- should have taken this earlier but chose a nap instead 😴so I'll tag the bottom book below since you can't read the title. 🍹

LauraBrook My grandparents had the same shot glasses! I loved them when I was small, wonder if my mom has them now. 7y
DebinHawaii @LauraBrook They are my favorites. My mom gifted them to me years ago & I treasure them. I hope your mom has them! 💜 7y

#Day6 #SeptemberPhotoChallenge #bookanddrink Since I'm on antibiotics for summer bronchitis, I'm not drinking & I'm always posting pics of books w/ coffee & tea, so I decided to show a fun book about drinking-mostly alcohol but tea & coffee too, w/ drink facts, seasonal drinks, food & drink pairings/recipes & pair it w/ my favorite shot glasses that I appropriated from my parents when I first moved out. Love their retro look ❤️ #somethingforsept🍸
