1. I'll preorder any MUTTS book by Patrick McDonnell. When the COMPLETE SERIES of PEANUTS books were being published (they only released 2 a year for a total of 26 volumes between 2004-2016), I always had the next one on preorder.
2. I rarely preorder because my reading style is so mercurial. Except for the books mentioned in #1, I can't recall a time when I've pre-ordered.

My first read of 2025 should come as no surprise: it's the story of Guard Dog, one of the characters in McDonnell's comic strip MUTTS, who finally is freed from his tethered chain of 30 years. I follow this strip religiously, and last year, for 7 weeks, the story of how Guard Dog is freed unfolded. Now in a graphic book with stunning color, I can relieve the heartbreak and ultimate joy again and again. A complete and absolute 5-star read. 🖤🐾🖤
