The Enchanted Greenhouse
The Enchanted Greenhouse | Sarah Beth Durst
New York Times bestselling author Sarah Beth Durst invites you to her new standalone novel nestled on a far-away island brimming with singing flowers, honey cakes, and honeyed love. The hardcover edition features beautiful sprayed edges. Terlu Perna broke the law because she was lonely. She cast a spell and created a magically sentient spider plant. As punishment, she was turned into a wooden statue and tucked away into an alcove in the North Reading Room of the Great Library of Alyssium. This should have been the end of her story . . . Yet one day, Terlu wakes in the cold of winter on a nearly-deserted island full of hundreds of magical greenhouses. Shes starving and freezing, and the only other human on the island is a grumpy gardener. To her surprise, he offers Terlu a place to sleep, clean clothes, and freshly baked honey cakesat least until shes ready to sail home. But Terlu cant return home and doesnt want tothe greenhouses are a dream come true, each more wondrous than the next. When she learns that the magic that sustains them is failingcausing the death of everything within themTerlu knows she must help. Even if that means breaking the law again. This time, though, she isnt alone. Assisted by the gardener and a sentient rose, Terlu must unravel the secrets of a long-dead sorcerer if she wants to save the islandand have a fresh chance at happiness and love. Funny, kind, and forgiving, The Enchanted Greenhouse is a story about giving second chancesto others and to yourself.

Mehso-so

This one took way too long to read. It wasn‘t as good as the first one. The story took a long time to get going and didn‘t have the build up that the first one did (which maybe it wasn‘t meant to have). I ended up skipping pages at the end just to finish it.

Now that comps are over I‘m treating myself to all the books that have been languishing on my TBR ♥️ that‘s right— I‘m rewarding myself for reading by reading 😉 I also bought beautiful hardback editions bc I‘m fancy & this one has blue edges!

I never read The Spellshop but this book made me want to so I‘m sure it‘s in my reading future! Such a heartfelt novel, with lush descriptions— it was truly enchanting meeting all the plants & living here

Is Sara Beth Durst‘s writing sometimes a little saccharine? Picture me answering this with a Yarrow-like shrug that means, “yes.” But I‘m not mad about it. Her books are total wish fulfillment *and* they show characters working through emotional trauma to reach a healthy place. Who‘s going to complain if that place is one with tiny dragon pollinators…👇🏻

monalyisha 1/3:…endless honey cakes; a shanty-singing myrtle plant; a purring & winged cat for a scarf; a community with respect for all beings & their chosen pronouns; and a man with calloused hands, a sensitive heart, and deep sea green eyes? It certainly won‘t be me! 3w
monalyisha 2/3: I‘m not one to shy away from ambiguous endings but in this case, I love that SBD is such a pro at tying up loose ends and leaving no tiny detail unaddressed. Hopeful and satisfying, both. 3w
monalyisha 3/3: If I could change anything, I‘d open that closed-door romance…but I‘ll begrudgingly admit that it feels appropriate, vibe-wise, for it to be shut. It‘s more welcoming to all readers that way. Also, I *really* hate the cover. I suspect if we‘re granted a third installment of this series, it will be Marin & Ree‘s story. 🌊 3w

Cute and cozy, but a little bit repetitive. Not as entertaining as the first one but a sweet read. 3.5⭐️

I adored 'The Spellshop,' so I was very excited for the audiobook of 'The Enchanted Greenhouse.' While there were new characters, it was in the same universe. I loved the cosy factor and the found family trope. The sentient plants were awesome. I think I might have enjoyed this one a little more than 'The Spellshop,' but it was close. I thought the narrator did a great job. 4.5 stars.
Thank you, NetGalley!

AkashaVampie Good to hear. I loved the Spellshop also. Can't wait to listen to this one. 1mo

a beautiful story filled with amazing scenery, a Grumpy gardener, an Ex-librarian who never stops talking, and their journey to overcome their traumas and save an amazing greenhouse, as well as a greenhouse full of talking plants! beautifully written and narrated, this was even better than the first in my personal opinion. i loved everything about it! the narrator was amazing too! a fantastic cozy fantasy!

So cozy and imaginative! Terlu is imprisoned as a statue for creating a sentient plant, then finds herself at the cusp of needing to perform more magic to save the enchanted greenhouse and the dreams of the grumpy lone Gardner who still tends them

This follow up to one of my favorite fantasies follows the librarian who created The Spellshop‘s sentient spider plant. When Terlu wakes after years in statue form, she finds herself on an island of magical greenhouses, full of powerful plants, singing flowers, and tiny pollinating dragons, but empty of anyone except a reclusive gardener with a baking talent. A little long, but a lovely and heartening story about loss, loneliness, and community.
