Tacos
Tacos | Joanne Mattern
1 post | 1 read
Sold in trucks, restaurants, and markets around the world, tacos have extended far past their Mexican beginnings. Young readers can learn about the history of tacos, from their mining origins to the creation of the hard shell, as well as the preparation of the food. Features such as recipes, a topping chart, and a timeline add extra spice to this low-level title!

I really like Bellwether's Blastoff series and hope more publishers make nonfiction accessible to early readers. I think this example could have been 2 books. It's too much recipe and not enough details supporting the facts. Who are these people putting pineapple on tacos? It's not enough to sort of say where they are. How will we know they exist?! 🦄 I need proof. I'd try it, but I'm allergic to tacos.

Ruthiella Why not? I‘m one of those weird people who like pineapple on pizza! 🍕😅 2mo
mandarchy @Ruthiella I wholeheartedly support pineapple on pizza and tacos. I put it in my spaghetti. People who freak out need to chill. The history of pineapple on pizza has an interesting history. 2mo
ElizaMarie Northern Mexico here (originally south Texas) but yes! Shredded beef. Very accurate. However --- fish tacos always felt very exotic to me. I am not sure about these pineapple people, but I know I have had fish cooked in a pineapple (as a bowl) in Mexico when visiting and it was amazing! Just we didn't have tacos with it! (also, allergic to tacos!?) 2mo
mandarchy @ElizaMarie you are allergic to tacos too? So infuriating. I live near the ocean so fish tacos are common here, but I'm in Washington State. I'll make them so I'm not allergic, but it's not the same. I'm allergic to peppers. No salsa 😢 2mo
