The Bone Queen
The Bone Queen | Alison Croggon
A gripping epic fantasy prequel to the award-winning Books of Pellinor series by Alison Croggon. Cadvan of Lirigon, one of the most brilliant Bards of his generation, has been exiled for a terrible crime that unleashed the power of the Bone Queen and wrought destruction across Annar. Meanwhile, in Lirigon, several unnerving events suggest that the Dark is growing in strength once again, and that the Bone Queen may yet lurk in the world. If he is to save both the living and the dead, Cadvan must once again face the evil that almost destroyed him. Critically acclaimed fantasy author Alison Croggon introduces readers to the world of Pellinor in this compelling story of Cadvan's struggle for redemption. Alison Croggon's fantasy quartet, The Books of Pellinor, has been steadily growing in popularity worldwide since the first volume was released in Australia in 2002. It has now sold more than three quarters of a million copies worldwide. The Gift (published in the US as The Naming), was shortlisted for two Aurealis Awards and is a CBCA Notable Book. Praise for the Books of Pellinor 'An epic fantasy in the Tolkien tradition.' Tamora Pierce 'A tale with passion, inspiring characters, an enchanting protagonist and vividly described landscapes will delight fans of Garth Nix.' The Bookseller 'The writing is the closest I've found to the feel of Lord of the Rings . . . I wanted to slow down and appreciate each portion of the character's journey.' Trudi Canavan, The Magicians' Guild 'Unbelievably fine . . . fantasy storytelling at its best.' VOYA, US 'Rich and passionate . . . Supremely satisfying' - Starred review, KIRKUS 'A narrative of beauties and terrors, craftily and compellingly wrought.' The Bulletin 'A ripping read . . . Fantasy-tastic!' Herald Sun

Considering how much I adored The Books of Pellinor series and by extension the author, Alison Croggon AND the fact that there is a cover quote that name checks Tolkien from none other than Tamora Pierce - it‘s almost hard to believe I haven‘t read this PREQUEL that I‘ve owned since it published in 2016 😅 maybe I thought I should reread the other books first?

I spent a ton of money on school supplies for the kids today; not wanting to feel left out I bought a few books for myself too 😬😵😱🙊

Riveted_Reader_Melissa And that's the way it should be! 👍. If anyone questions it remind them that learning for a lifetime is the goal! 😉 7y

Mehso-so

I think this one suffered from how much I loved the first books. It lacked some of the grace that made the Pellinor so special, and read somewhat disjointed toward the end. I'll reread the others soon to make sure they're still wonderful.

I am the slowest reader in the history of bookselling. I will finish this book soon and write nice things about it. I will then read 79 graphics novels in one day to make myself feel accomplished. I also hope that the cover Litsy thinks this book has is the real cover, because I'm not sure I can sell this one.

Ever been so excited about a prequel that you raced off to the book store immediately upon hearing of its publication?

But upon arriving home, new book in hand - decided to read something else? 🤔👀

NerdyRev Yes! Regularly! My wife yells at me for it too, in a nice way. 8y
Library-Belle What is this the prequel too?!?? Looks good! 8y
readinginthedark I did that with the new Harry Potter! 😂 At midnight! Still haven't finished it. 8y

LeahBergen It really is strange but I seldom read my most recent purchase. I like to hoard it and gloat over it a bit, I guess 😉 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @NerdyRev, well - as long as it's in a nice way 😂 8y
