The ultimate summer nostalgia read, about an engaged woman who comes face to face with her first love who she hasn't seen in fourteen years, but who she spent every summer with from age five to seventeen when he broke her heart, calling into question everything she thought she knew about their love story, and herself. An unforgettable love storyBursting with the magic of first love, its everything I want in a summer romance.Carley Fortune, author of Every Summer After Beach Rules: Do take long walks on the sand. Do put an umbrella in every cocktail. Do NOT run into your first love. Sams life is on track. She has the perfect doctor fianc, Jack (his strict routines are a good thing, really), a great job in Manhattan (unless they fire her), and is about to tour a wedding venue near her familys Long Island beach house. Everything should go to plan, yet the minute she arrives, Sam senses something is off. Wyatt is here. Her Wyatt. But theres no reason for a thirty-year-old engaged woman to feel panicked around the guy who broke her heart when she was seventeen. Right? Yet being back at this beach, hearing notes from Wyatts guitar float across the night air from next door as if no time has passedSams memories come flooding back: the feel of Wyatts skin on hers, their nights in the treehouse, and the truth behind their split. Sam remembers who she used to be, and as Wyatt reenters her life their connection is as undeniable as it always was. She will have to make a choice.

Still pollen deep in spring but sunny day felt right for flip flops and a beach read.

audiobook ISBN 9780593742013

Wyatt broke Sam's heart 12 years ago since when she hasn't seen him but this summer she takes her fiancé to her family's beach house - and Wyatt is there too.

Ch 24; still haven't got to the reason for their break-up. Looks suspiciously like Sam's family is throwing them together in spite of the fact that she & Jack are looking for a wedding venue.

humouress I like both of Monaghan's books that I've read; the clean romance aspect & the thrill of falling in love.

I chose the audio book because I really liked the audio of 'Nora Goes off Script' read by Hillary Huber. But this was read by Brittany Pressley (& Dan Bittner for 'Wyatt'); both had a southern accent and dragged the ends of sentences which worked for Wyatt (made him sound laid back) but not so much for the narration - or, really, for Sam. ⬇️

humouress ⬆️ And I couldn't always tell what was spoken vs thought. She did have a good variety of voices, so I could tell who was speaking but I was a little distracted by her style of narration. Mind you, not the worst I've heard by a long shot. I was just spoiled by Huber 😊 (edited) 1mo

I liked the flashbacks more than the present day, but the overall story was a fun one to follow. Very cute and predictable, and her fiancé was ??

I enjoyed it. But I felt like it could have used a bit more in the end to just unfold better. Anyway overall I would say “pick” but closer to the “so-so” part of it.

I‘ve got a few marigolds still blooming, but most of my “summer” flowers have stared to wilt and give up the Oklahoma days to the fall.
This is on its way to you @ElizaMarie While I enjoyed it, I think it fell short of being a pick for me. Without saying too much, there was just something in the tone of the relationships that didn‘t fully work for me. But I think it was still a fun read, and I enjoyed the characters. #lmpbc #groupr

One more week of “summer” and I‘m excited to start this #lmpbc #groupr pick to close it out! Also, SO EXCITED for blanket weather in the back yard! I love summer, but fall is my jam! 🍂🍁 Not really for the spookies, but for the blankets & cooler weather & coffee drinking & football. 🩵💛🤎

ElizaMarie Fall is my absolute favorite time of the year! 7mo

On a fishing vacation in Canada and not getting as much reading time as I‘d like. Also as you can see- the air is trying to kill me here too. Hubs went out for 2 hrs with the camp owner and left me in peace to read a bit. Loved this #lmpbc from @Hazel2019 ! Fun, quick, and all the warm fuzzies.

KathyWheeler I‘m not sure where you are, but my cousin in Yellowknife was evacuated last week because of wildfires. She just got back home today. Looks peaceful where you are though. 8mo
BethM @KathyWheeler were up in northwestern Ontario. The air quality is terrible. 8mo

I enjoyed this book. It had good pacing and enjoyable characters. Plus who wouldn‘t want to spend all summer at the beach?!

This was a nice light romance. Well written and likeable characters. A little sweet home Alabama in its premise but no complaints there.

In case my fourth book in two days isn‘t hint enough I have come away on my own to try and decompress from a tough year. My current reading isn‘t very challenging but it is charming and therapeutic. Every time I read one of these unusual family in their second home on Long Island books it makes me want to go !#pantone2023

CuriousG Charming and therapeutic - perfect way to describe the types of books needed after a tough period. Hope your decompression time gives you the space you need to feel refreshed! 9mo
Itchyfeetreader Thank you @CuriousG I am going to give myself one more and then maybe try something a little denser ! 9mo

Gave me 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' trilogy (Jenny Han) epilogue feelings. Closed door second chance romance with the summer house boy next door.

It took me about a third to get into this, but I am so glad I stuck with the teen love drama because it brought me back. I loved the characters so much I wanted to be a casting director. Sam is Julia Styles in my mind. Her mom has to be Bonnie Bedalia (mom from Parenthood). Who is Wyatt though? (Also yeah my casting might be outdated 😉)

I'm kinda loving puzzling the #Aardvark music clues! Here's my guess for this one based on the songs. The MC is engaged but runs into her first love (Teenage Dream), and starts worrying she'll catch feels again (Feelings Show, August, Dial Drunk, and the song about avoiding "The Street You Live On"). And as a romance fanatic it doesn't feel like a stretch that she might be thinking he was The 1 that got away (the swifty in me loves that clue)?

Cinfhen I haven‘t seen these clues yet but you‘re guess sounds solid!!! 10mo

Sam dreads going back to the beach with her family…she keeps thinking back to the summer she was sixteen, when the boy next door broke her heart. A surprise awaits her at the beach 14 years later…

This is a good summer read, but I also got a bit annoyed with Sam‘s behavior. She grows a lot in this book, but I also felt I could never quite connect with her. I liked Brittany Pressley‘s narration but Dan Bittner‘s narration fell flat for me.

Short and sweet with summertime romance… made me think of a simpler time and to yearn for the days of endless sun and no responsibilities!

BethM I just saw Ellie Alexander signed with a new English company for a new cozy series :) 10mo

Sam is a 30-year-old successful woman living in Manhattan, planning her wedding near her childhood beach home on Long Island. But when she and her fiancé travel home to finalize details, she comes face-to-face with her childhood best friend and first love, Wyatt, who broke her heart and left her despondent at 17 and now lives in CA. As she begins to relax at the beach with her family and feel more herself, she begins questioning her decisions in?

robinb life and what exactly happened to cause Wyatt‘s loss.

I enjoyed this book. It had likable characters (although I did get a bit disgruntled with Sam occasionally), a good mix of past/present storylines and a good look at how we sometimes need to take a step back and make sure we recognize ourselves, both as we are and how we want to be.

Sweet with just the right amount of depth and angst. 4.25/5⭐️
