⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Enjoyed this bonus, nonfiction #AuldLangSpine pick from @JenReadsAlot about. Interesting and 😬 reporting from an author who was raised in a conservative home and media environment and who became fascinated by the cult-like dynamics of QAnon and the serious consequences for individuals and society. @monalyisha

JenReadsAlot I'm so glad you enjoyed this one! 3mo

I remember the first time I ever saw a Q flag. I thought, what is that? We still try to make sense of who/what ‘Q‘ is, but we cannot, because, it is impossible. Why? Because there is no sense to it. This book discusses the origins and spread of Q silliness along with some of the ridiculous conspiracy theories they believe. Many of us now know someone who has fallen prey to the Q cult. Sadly, it is probably going to be around for a while. ⬇️

JenniferEgnor I have met people who believe it, and sadly, some of my family believe it—others are getting closer to it, thanks to right wing podcasts, evangelicals, and social media algorithms. I will never understand how anyone can believe these lies. I suppose it is similar to how Nazis recruit new fascists—look for a need, a vulnerability. Is Q the newest Salem hysteria? How do we fight this? State facts, hold to facts. Repeat. There is a podcast⬇️ (edited) 3mo
JenniferEgnor I have found to be very helpful in dealing with the hurt Q causes. Each episode tells the story of how another family was ripped apart. Link here: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-q-dropped-podcast/id1648047486 3mo

A disturbing and enlightening portrait of how much this conspiracy has ruined families and accelerated a growing division in this country. Equal parts horrifying and tragic.

Look, it's not the author's fault that I have followed this story obsessively for seven years, but honesty compels me to report that I just didn't see much new in this book.

If you want to get a handle on the conspiracy theory behind a good deal of the craziness in American politics and the American electorate, this book is a good guide. It‘s all just so absurd and fatiguing that I kept wanting to walk away, until I remembered the insidious effects of all this QAnon rot.

This book was a great look into the QAnon phenomenon, including how it came to be, how it evolved, and where it‘s going. QAnon is a wild and dangerous concept and I‘ve been interested in how it possibly gained ground and become the massive movement it is today. I felt like this book gave the complete picture, and I‘d recommend it to anyone who wants more info on QAnon.

Will Sommer has been following QAnon since they were just a handful of weirdos on the chans. Some of this material is covered in the HBO documentary Q: Into The Storm, but it didn‘t feel redundant. His coverage of some of the folks hurt by QAnon was simultaneously fascinating and heartbreaking. Very interesting read/listen.

GingerAntics This sounds equally intriguing and troubling. 13mo
Ericalambbrown @GingerAntics it is! It falls into one of those “uncomfortable yet useful” reads. 13mo
GingerAntics @Ericalambbrown I think I‘m going to have to read it. My curiosity is getting the best of me. 13mo
Ericalambbrown @GingerAntics I listened to some of it and the audiobook is good. The HBO documentary I mentioned is really good, too. The author is interviewed in that. 13mo
GingerAntics @Ericalambbrown I‘m slightly terrified of both. 13mo

I have read a couple of books about QAnon, and I am just shocked that anyone would believe this, but Sommer, who has covered QAnon since its inception, does a good job of explaining the perfect storm that led to this conspiracy theory of everything. But where this book totally fascinated me was his look at where these people stand since the end of Q drops. From people kidnapping children to alt-right conventions and YouTube, he looks at it all.

squirrelbrain Oh, and this one sounds even MORE fascinating! 14mo

Megabooks @sarahbarnes @Ruthiella there are definitely some books about politics I can‘t read (like anything about failed impeachments of you know who and a certain day in January), but this I can read. 🤷🏻‍♀️ something about conspiracy theories I find very interesting. 14mo
Megabooks @squirrelbrain he does write about international QAnon too. I didn‘t know it was so big in Germany! 🤯 14mo

So today did end up being a snow day. I just took Peri out and the wind and snow hurt my face. I started this audiobook today while making lunch.

Megabooks I finished this yesterday, and it was wild! 14mo
