I should probably have stopped early on; the cops are surprised that the headless corpse seems to be a man and thus consider it worth investigating, because « normally » they‘d see women being dismembered, and nine times out of ten said woman would be a prostitute. Like maybe they should be trying to stop whoever‘s killing women? Ugh.

“There was no lack of colorful individuals in a neighborhood like Quai de Valmy. But he had seldom encountered the kind of inertia he had seen in that woman. It was hard to explain. When most people look at you, there is some sort of exchange, however small.A contact is established, even if that contact is a kind of defiance. With her, on the contrary there is nothing.â€
A baffling case involving a dismembered body & puzzling inertia of a bistro owner.

Librarybelle Awesome! 4y
JazzFeathers I have never read Simenon. I hear he's one of those authors that you either love or hate. Mhm... there are new translations coming out here in Italy at the moment. The translator is a friend of my sister's. Sounds like a good occasion. 4y
