"Gorgeous, witty and so alive that you'll swear the pages are breathing, Gina Sorell's The Wise Women sets two extraordinary grown sisters and their controlling mother on a collision course when the bottom falls out for them personally and professionally. About the price of real estate, the power of aging, class, parenting, family and, of course, love, The Wise Women is at heart about finding your personal True North. I'd follow these three women anywhere."--Caroline Leavitt A witty and wildly enjoyable novel, set in New York City, about two adult daughters and their meddling advice columnist mother, for readers of Meg Wolitzer, Cathleen Schine, and Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeney. Popular advice columnist Wendy Wise has been skillfully advising the women who write to her seeking help for four decades, so why are her own daughters' lives such a mess? Clementine, the working mother of a six-year-old boy, has just discovered that she is actually renting the Queens home that she thought she owned, because her husband Steve secretly funneled their money into his flailing start-up. Meanwhile, her sister Barb has overextended herself at her architecture firm and reunited semi-unhappily with her cheating girlfriend. When Steve goes MIA and Clementine receives an eviction notice, Wendy swoops in to save the day, even though her daughters, who are holding onto some resentments from childhood, haven't asked for her help. But as soon as Wendy sets her sights on hunting down her rogue son-in-law, Barb and Clementine quickly discover that their mother has been hiding more than a few problems of her own. As the three women confront the disappointments and heartaches that have accumulated between them over the years, they discover that while the future may look entirely different from the one that they've expected, it may be even brighter than they'd hoped.

Pickpick

This was a great reflection on a woman's sense of feminism and how she could have misconstrued it altogether. It was interesting to see how each woman tried to find her own way, convinced it was logical and using the lessons of the generation before, only for all their ideals be challenged and turn their lives upside down.

Pickpick

A light-hearted story about 2 grown-up sisters, one sister‘s sensitive son, and their aging advice-columnist mother as all their relationships with their significant others implode simultaneously. The banter between the family is witty, and it‘s a warm, lovable family unit. But the startup/influencer storyline felt a little forced. It gave me Elin Hildebrand vibes with an NYC edge…. Fun, fluffy but a bit forgettable… a light 3⭐️pick.

KarenUK And finally, I feel I have to do the first Barnes & Noble 52 book challenge! #BN2023challenge #anauthoryouvenotheardofbefore I really managed a #quadripledip !!!! 🍦🍦🍦🍦 1y
Cinfhen Wait? What?!?! B& N is doing a challenge?! Fun 🤩 (edited) 1y
squirrelbrain Yay for the quadruple dip! I just did one too. But, la, la, la I don‘t want to hear about any more challenges… 🙉 1y
KarenUK Yep! @Cinfhen @squirrelbrain They posted it a couple of days ago on Instagram, so I kind of have to do it! Luckily I‘ll be able to double/triple dip a lot!!! 😉 https://www.instagram.com/p/CmwLXnnuyMC/?igshid=Zjc2ZTc4Nzk= 1y
Cinfhen I was tempted @squirrelbrain but I‘m holding back… 1y
Cinfhen Congrats on the #quadruple 🙌🏻🎉💖 1y
squirrelbrain Oh dear, I don‘t have Insta so I can‘t see it properly… phew! 😮‍💨 1y
BarbaraBB I had no idea so many people participated in #52bookclub23! I have to make a taglist! For #pop23 you can add (as far as I know) @AshleyHoss820 @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick and @RaeLovesToRead 1y
AshleyHoss820 @KarenUK I saw their instagram post and decided to give that one a go too! They have some good prompts! 1y
KarenUK @AshleyHoss820 Nice to have a challenge buddy! 👍💕 1y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I am focusing on #Booked2023 & #52BookClub23 this year (I get lazy & just use #52books) but am also trying to see how far I can get with #pop23, read harder, b & n, and maybe one or two others. Someone on instagram released a We Didn't Start the Fire challenge with 132 prompts. I might count one book for multiple prompts on that one & track just for fun. It's a fun addiction. 1y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @BarbaraBB ☝️See above comment. I accidentally removed your tag. 1y
BarbaraBB So many challenges! I am over my head into challenges as well. Not sure where I‘ll end up with #pop23, doing #booked2023 and #52books as well. And now I must check out the big one on Instagram as well 🤷🏻‍♀️😂 @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick (edited) 1y
