Think a girly Silicon Valley meets We Work! I got totally absorbed into Asha‘s world as she tries to build an alternative to social media. The characters felt like friends, I want to text them and see how they‘re doing! Not sure on the ending though… I really hope there‘s a sequel!

I really enjoyed this book with strong female characters who figure out how to function in a patriarchal industry and society. Sometimes it's easy to lose oneself in a relationship and for a greater good, but in the end Asha knows who she is.

I‘ve been waiting for availability from the library for most of last year. I was greatly anticipating the read but as it turns out, it was a little disappointing. Not sure if it was premise of the startup that I didn‘t love or the actual writing. Meh.

Enjoyed this satirical read! Really interesting concept of a social media app that incorporates elements of religion or spirituality. And Asha is a badass..

This #audiobook is very good. It's about a young woman programmer who marries her high school crush object, starts a company with him and a friend and how it all sort of spirals out of control. It's very funny. A bonus at the end is an interview between the author and the narrator that provides a lot of insight.

Asha is a brilliant coder who creates a new platform that takes off. But her husband becomes the face of it as she is steadily marginalized more and more. It took me a long time to get into this book and I actually considered bailing about 1/4 in, but ultimately it redeemed itself by showing how women are often marginalized and how we often play into it just to get a seat at the table. I didn‘t love the audio narrator, though.

"No one wants to be married to the guy everyone thinks is going to save the world."

Asha is a skilled coder and drops out of a PhD program to start an app with her high school crush, at the same time they decide to marry on a whim. Cyrus only wants to be involved if they can "do things differently," and goes on to be the guru-CEO of their company that helps people create rituals and connect outside of a traditional religious background.↘️

ReadingEnvy I like the combination of start-up culture with marriage dynamics, the guru persona and what it's like to be connected to it, and then the author even writes in the pandemic (which works perfectly with this start-up!)

You maay recognize the author from historical fiction novel The Golden Age which is set in 1971 East Pakistan; I read that at the end of 2019. Both books include women who are in a high-stress situation

Vansa I didn't like this at all!I can't see why Cyrus was attracted to ASHA at all,and her descriptions of him don't progress beyond breathless high-school crush. Her explorations of tech and funding were ridiculously shallow and clichéd,it's like people have forgotten that we've all seen this already in Silicon Valley.Allegra Goodman's tagged book is a profound masterpiece on the topic. 3y

I thought this was a really smart read - Asha and her husband found a company, and of course things don't go smoothly. It address tech, sexism, religion, death, and relationships. Reminded me a little of Meg Wolitzer or Megan Abbott. Great writing, and I'd definitely read more by this author.

squirrelbrain Great review and I really like Wolitzer - stacked! 3y

This sounds so good, I'm really surprised there are no Litsy posts on it. I'll post the blurb in the next pic.
