Wynd Book One: Flight of the Prince
Wynd Book One: Flight of the Prince | James Tynion IV
11 posts | 8 read | 6 to read
Wynd seems like a regular boy in the fantastical world of Esseriel, except he's got a magical secret. Now he's set off on a journey with his best friend and the boy of his dreams to discover the magic in the world around him and, most importantly, within himself. YOU CAN'T FIND YOUR HOME UNTIL YOU FIND YOURSELF. Wynd lives a quiet life in Pipetown -- working at the local tavern, out of sight in the secret rooms beneath the floorboards, often stealing away to catch glimpses of the son of the castle's groundskeeper as he works. But Wynd also has a secret... magical blood betrayed by his pointed ears, forbidden within the city limits. His shaggy hair has obscured them for most of his life, but now that Wynd is a teenager they are growing too unwieldy to hide. Joined by his best friend Oakley and Thorn, the groundskeeper's son, Wynd's strange dreams and an encounter with the city guard send him on the most dangerous adventure he could imagine, where Wynd will discover the magic in the world around him and, most importantly, the magic within himself. The GLAAD Award-winning team of writer James Tynion IV (Batman, The Woods) and artist Michael Dialynas (The Woods) present a new young adult fantasy series about learning to spread your wings no matter the dangers that life puts in your way.

In a city where magic is taboo, Wynd has to hide his true identity. He wishes he could be normal, so that he could have a life in the open, maybe meeting the boy who works in the royal gardens.

I thought this was a good first installment in a fantasy graphic novel series. It doesn‘t stand alone, so I‘ll have to see if I can get the next book from the library. Great art, thoughtful characters.

Venkman would like to get back to his nap now, thx.

Colorful. Bright. Dangerous. Heartfelt. Tragic. Wonderful. A city where Wynd, a magical boy, wants to be human where having magic blood gets you killed. I‘m such a sop for those types of stories. You can flee the emotions through these incredible expressions. The Bandaged Man is ruthlessly scary. Wynd is enduring to listen to. How could he not be when he speaks with such conviction. #lgbtq rep

This pulled me out of my reading slump! I enjoyed the elements of the story, and the writing style gave a sense of mystery-I wanted to know more about Wynd and the other characters. The characters. and their development, the world building and artwork of the story are well-crafted.
I'm looking forward to reading Book 2

The Bandaged Man is brutal, and he shows no mercy to magical creatures and the people that aid them; now I'm worried about what the Bandaged Man has in store for the characters in Book 2 #comics #yagraphicnovels #lgbtq #lgbtqcharacter

I really enjoyed this comic. I read some of the single issues a while back, but never got to read them all.

Wynd lives in Pipetown, but he has to hide his ears for his own safety. Magic is not welcome here.

Loved this one, and I definitely will try to get my hands on Book 2, The Secret of the Wings.

New Kid on the Book It looks fun! 2y
