Whispers in the Mist
Whispers in the Mist : (Black Winter Book 3) | Darcy Coates
4 posts | 4 read | 2 to read
From USA Today bestseller and rising queen of paranormal horror Darcy Coates comes Book 3 in the Black Winter Series. You won't survive the stillness...
The mist is full of evil things―dark, twisted beings that think only of their own hunger―but Clare has clawed her way through. She and Dorran are alive against all odds, though relief is only temporary. Dorran is sick, and declining fast. The only way to save him lies in the mysterious Evandale Research Station, supposedly one of the few remaining places safe from the predators that lurk in the shadows. But the station is a three days' journey away, and it's unlikely their small group can endure that long out in the dark.
Because the danger they're facing comes not only from the ravenous hollow ones... but from each other.
This terrible new world has left scars, and the people left behind in it are nearly unrecognizable. As Clare fights to protect her ragtag family, she begins to realize a horrible truth: not everyone can be saved. And sometimes the worst monsters wear a human smile.

The action and fear continue in the third installment of the Black Winter Series.
Again, I feel like saying much of anything specific will ruin the first book! But much like the first three it's an easy read and moves quickly. Coates is so good at taking away her characters safety and forcing them (you!) into situations that just suck! Little time is wasted on backstory which is always nice. Great read.

Book 20 in October themed reads. Y‘all I was up all night reading this one! Although it kinda feels like a love letter to The Walking Dead franchise there are some differences that set it apart. This one has a little romance, a lot of suspense, and plenty of character growth. Turns out there is a book 4 to this series so I need to sort that out. Dorran and Clare are characters you‘ll want to take the journey with.

This book was a little slower than the first two but no less suspenseful. Some people left the two main protagonists and they‘re on their way back to Winterbourne; which sounds like it‘s going to be a death trap after reading the synopsis of the fourth book.
