Taking another break from Jade City - the story is amazing but I feel like I‘m running a marathon on a treadmill when I read it; always moving but never going forward. (Seriously, I‘m on chapter 39 & just barely halfway) This one is an interesting look at the things in our daily lives that cause us anxiety, all in the context of Maslow‘s Hierarchy of Needs.

I love reading Jen Lancaster and I wanted to like this book. She used more than 200 footnotes, and not all of them were for actual sources. Some of her sources for the argument she was presenting weren't super great to begin with. I missed her humor that used to make me actually laugh out loud.

I strongly disliked this book. It started ok, but as it went on I found the author to be trite and condescending, constantly name-dropping and saying how much harder she‘s had it than the younger generation. A Gen Xer talks down to Gen Z on how she played outside, liked offensive jokes and we just don‘t understand the pressure faced by the police. Not for me. #NFN2020 #Book

Prairiegirl_reading That sounds awful! 3y
NeedsMoreBooks I was planning to read this but now, I am unsure. 3y
veritysalter It could just be me @NeedsMoreBooks once she‘d irritated me, I noticed more stuff. 3y

I‘m wishing the author had taken her own advice and kept quite a few of her musings to herself. #NFN2020 #Book

Thanks to #netgalley for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. Full Disclosure: I already had this book on pre-order because I am a huge fan of Jen Lancaster's books, I have read and loved every single one. That being said, I will always give my honest thoughts on a book I read whether or not I already adore the author and everything about her! Ok now that's out in the open let's get into it. Read this book! I loved it ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Top L: A throwback to my favorite poem of all time- Frost's "Fire & Ice".
