A hilarious and deliciously scathing send-up of motherhood as practiced in the upper echelons of Manhattan society, from the coauthor of The Right Address and Wolves in Chic Clothing. The mothers on Manhattans chic Upper East Side are highly educated, extremely wealthy, and very competitive. They throw themselves and all of their energy and resources into full-time child rearing, turning their kids into the unwitting pawns in a game where success is measured in precocious achievements, jam-packed schedules, and elite private-school pedigrees. Hannah Allen has recently moved to the neighborhood with her New York Citybred investment banker husband and their two-year-old daughter, Violet. Shes immediately inundated by an outpouring of advice from her not-so-well-intentioned new friends and her overbearing, socially conscious mother-in-law, who coach her on matters ranging from where to buy the must-have $300 baby dress to how to get into the only pre-pre-preschool that counts. Despite her better instincts and common sense, Hannah soon finds herself caught up in the competitive whirl of high-stakes mothering.

Pickpick

This was kind of a silly read about a group of moms in NYC, but I enjoyed the light, quick read 💜

20s me would have loved this. 30s me...not so much. Chick lit from the early 2000s, this book discusses the dynamics of the ritzy mommies of NYC. Lots of pop references from the late 90s and early 00s made me nostalgic, but I just couldn‘t get into the story. Renee Raudman is a great audiobook narrator, and that‘s probably why I kept listening to this.

Grabbed an audiobook to listen to on my travels today. Back home for the moment, so a quick check in for the #24in48 #readathon .

Happy Mother‘s Day! 👩‍👦👩‍👧

Above by Edmund Charles Tarbell.

If it‘s a hard day for you perhaps some self care is in order, like ice cream 🍦.

I was having to tell myself to keep calm at a meeting with some fellow bridesmaids last night. Both moms came. It didn't go well. It also took away all my reading time last night. Just seems like one thing after another is getting in the way of my reading this month.

Bookzombie 😕 Wedding stuff can be so stressful. Hope you find time to read. 6y

Gezemice Oh no. I am so glad we went for a simple wedding back then. 6y

Chick lit is my #guiltypleasure. It often has this theme. #MarchIntoReading

Reviewsbylola Chick lit was literally al I read as a young adult! 6y
Cortg I bought Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons from my parent's neighbor at a yard sale. She said it was good. I was working my way through and suddenly the story made no sense! After a couple pages of confusion I realized there was a printing error and a big chunk of the pages were out of order. I also wonder if that neighbor noticed, because she didn't say anything when I bought of for like a quarter 🤔😂 6y

When I need a break or an easy read I tend to go for "chick lit" or "beach reads". #palatecleanser #fiestyfeb
