The Bridges | Tarjei Vesaas

A spare, powerful, supremely graceful novel from a giant of Norwegian literature As strange, unsettling, and memorable as The Ice Palace, this remarkable novel carries with it all the compassion, human insight, and lyrical power of all great Vesaas novels. It describes the changing relationships between three adolescentsan unmarried mother who has drowned her newborn child and the girl and boy who befriend her. Their individual reactions to the tragedy and their efforts to communicate with each other form the central theme of the narrative.

Another beautiful strange, unsettling novel by this #Norwegian author who has become a favorite of mine. With much human insight Vesaas describes the changing relationships between three adolescents - an unmarried mother who has drowned her newborn child and the girl and boy who befriend her. Their individual reactions to the tragedy and their efforts to communicate with each other form the central theme of the narrative.

JennyM Your picture is pretty much my week! Hope you‘re doing ok. X 4y
BarbaraBB @JennyM Zoom is the new reality it seems. But it works fine and I‘m doing okay. As long as we can leave the house I am happy. How are you? X 4y
JennyM @BarbaraBB it‘s been a week, that‘s for sure! I‘m doing ok - looking for the good in things at the moment - and there‘s always lots of that on Litsy 💜 Technology can be wonderful. Take care and stay well xx 4y

BarbaraBB @Librarybelle He is such a great writer. Easy to read but so much is happening in his short sentences. 4y

#WeeklyForecast 13/20

I reckon there‘ll be much time to read the coming week so my forecast is ambitious even though I can‘t focus much on reading at the moment. Thank god for Litsy and wine to keep me sane 😉😘

Cathythoughts I can‘t focus well either ... but Litsy , and the wine 🍷 are good 👍🏻 4y
AlaMich Me neither @Cathythoughts. And I‘m about 30% through The Count of Monte Cristo (unabridged version), which I‘m loving, but it does require a bit of concentration. I‘m considering pausing it and finding something that needs less brain power. 4y
Cathythoughts @AlaMich Yes, it‘s hard to concentrate with the covid .... Such a strange time , take care ❤️ 4y

Cinfhen I‘ve been listening to the audio of Only Plane in the Sky for hours today...it‘s putting everything in perspective for me 💜 4y
TrishB @Cathythoughts hard to concentrate isn‘t it! 😘 4y
Megabooks I have one foot in the river of denial and the other foot on the bank of reality. It‘s a weird time that calls for a weird metaphor! I liked woman no 17. 4y
