Y‘all this book was genuinely So Good. Suspenseful and interesting and with a solid, extremely fulfilling ending. I loved this. A+ Sophie Hannah, well done

You know how the TV show LOST was years of random stuff, and then a terrible ending that didnt connect any of it? That's this book. Except at least LOST was interesting. I feel like the author owes me an apology for wasting my time. The character development is problematic, the plot outlandish, and about 95% of the book is just the main character ruminating about an incident that happened at the very beginning. Half star for good audio narration

The concept of this book was outlandish to begin with, but I kept reading just to see how the author would tie it all together in the end. I was hoping for some weird sci-fi twist (clones, perhaps?) or something paranormal, but instead, I got a completely ridiculous and unsatisfying explanation. The whole book was repetitive and boring, but man, that “reveal” was too much for me and dropped this from a 2-star read to a 1-star one. Yikes. 😬

On one hand this thriller delivers on dark family secrets and constant twists in the story. However, it also never fully comes together in a believable way.

It's not bad; it's not great; it's just okay.

My mind kept trying to make the situation with Flora and her young children into something sci-fi, like cloning. Instead, what Hannah gives us is an excellent thriller. As Beth tries to make sense of what has happened to the best friend she abandoned long ago, we‘re taken on a wild, at times terrifying ride.

Well crafted. IMHO much better than her Hercule Poirot mysteries. I like the characters she‘s created better than rewriting Poirot.

Book 107 I listened to this mystery about a woman who sees her estranged best friend with her kids, who haven't aged in the past 12 years. The author whipped the reader around on this one; would the twist be realistic, or is the main character insane? It was entertaining enough without being good; there are much better thrillers.

Beth has not seen her best friend Flora for twelve years, so of course she looks older... but why do her two children look as if they hadn‘t aged at all? And where is her baby she had before they stopped being friends? And what is up with her husband moving to Florida and claiming she lives with him when clearly she does not?

Beth is on a mission to get answers and won‘t stop until she is sure that Flora and the children are safe.

Decent read!

Wow, quite a story!!!

I picked this intriguing mystery up from my local indie bookstore yesterday (I‘d preordered it) and finished it today! It was sooooo good! It had the right amount of confusion, suspense, family relationships, friendships with secrets, interesting side characters, etc. I like Sophie Hannah and totally recommend this one to anyone wanting an original fast-paced mystery!
