Death of a Scriptwriter
Death of a Scriptwriter | M. C. Beaton
5 posts | 9 read | 6 to read
From the author of the Agatha Raisin television series...DEATH OF A SCRIPTWRITER: A Hamish Macbeth Mystery HOLLYWOOD IN THE HIGHLANDS With the lovely Priscilla Halburton-Smythe away in London, Lochdubh Constable Hamish Macbeth pines for company during the long Scottish winter. He gets his wish -- and more -- when a troupe of flashy, urbane filmmakers clamors into the nearby town of Drim. Before long bedlam erupts around their make-believe mystery ...and culminates in the sudden appearance of one very real corpse. The initial suspect in the killing is one Patricia Martyn-Broyd, the aging mystery writer furious that her musty old cozies are getting a risque face-lift in their TV reincarnation. Yet, going behind the scenes, Hamish soon finds a town full of locals bitten by the movie bug and a cast of quarreling show business types, all harboring their own secrets, lies, and hidden agendas. And as the culprit strikes again, Hamish must quickly find the right killer -- or script the wrong finale to a show gone murderously awry.

Lockdubh Constable Hamish Macbeth meets with a troupe of filmmakers in the nearby Town of Drim. Patricia Matryn-Boyd is soon a victim and as the culprit strikes again, Hamish must quickly find the right killer. This is a fun entertaining read with quirky characters. the plot is so off-the wall and the ending is a complete surprise.

I haven‘t bought a single book for myself since July 24th, but yesterday I popped into the thrift store in search of a tart pan and came away with 14 Hamish Macbeth mysteries for my dad.

Not one of my favourites out of the Hamish Macbeth murder mysteries but wasn't the worse!
Really starting to find Jimmy Anderson more of a moocher than Hamish is!

Always love spending time in Lochdudh, Scotland with Hamish Macbeth. In this one a tv company is filming in the area with fatal results (as always!). A great group of characters in this one and could that be a love interest for Hamish - given the track record I wouldn't hold your breath. Short reads but refreshing and entertaining as always. Always sustains me until I can next visit Scotland. Can't wait for my return to Lochdubh.

robinb Thanks @Andrew65 I‘m definitely going to check this series out! 👍🙌 6y

Just about to head off to my favourite village, Lochdubh in Scotland, and meet up with Hamish once more. I wonder whether my life insurance is up to date! 🤔

robinb @Andrew65 I‘m wanting to try this author soon. I noticed he has two series, and I think you read both. Do you recommend I start with Hamish or Agatha? 😊 6y
Andrew65 @robinb Hamish is a more likeable character than Agatha, and they are light, entertaining and engaging books so if I was going to go for a favourite I would choose Hamish. I think you will like Hamish from the word go. Agatha is not necessarily the most likeable of characters, but is vulnerable. However her cantankerousness does grow on you, and she gets herself into some funny situations. 6y
Andrew65 @robinb I also like the setting of the Hamish books in the highlands of Scotland. The books are quite quick reads. I usually finish them in not much more than four hours. So I would recommend starting with Hamish Macbeth. (edited) 6y
robinb @Andrew65 will do! Thanks so much for your insight! 😊 6y
