"The Nanny kept me in white-knuckled suspense until the very last page. Gilly Macmillan's breakout thriller is a dark and twisted version of Downton Abbey gone very, very wrong." -- Tess Gerritsen, New York Times bestselling authorThe New York Times bestselling author of What She Knew conjures a dark and unpredictable tale of family secrets that explores the lengths people will go to hurt one another. When her beloved nanny, Hannah, left without a trace in the summer of 1988, seven-year-old Jocelyn Holt was devastated. Haunted by the loss, Jo grew up bitter and distant, and eventually left her parents and Lake Hall, their faded aristocratic home, behind.Thirty years later, Jo returns to the house and is forced to confront her troubled relationship with her mother. But when human remains are accidentally uncovered in a lake on the estate, Jo begins to question everything she thought she knew. Then an unexpected visitor knocks on the door and Jo's world is destroyed again. Desperate to piece together the gaping holes in her memory, Jo must uncover who her nanny really was, why she left, and if she can trust her own mother... In this compulsively readable tale of secrets, lies, and deception, Gilly Macmillan explores the darkest impulses and desires of the human heart. Diabolically clever, The Nanny reminds us that sometimes the truth hurts so much you'd rather hear the lie.

The was an entertaining thriller. A nanny who‘s not who she says she is. A murder victim who‘s not who you think it is.

I thought this was a different book for basically the whole time. I remember reading a blurb on “the perfect nanny” and liking it, so that‘s what I thought I was reading… so the ride was confusing. I didn‘t love it. But I finished it!

Loved this one!!!
If you enjoy reading about suspense, murder, and complicated family secrets, this is a book for you!
I always enjoy books written by this talented author, and this is another great read. Couldn't put it down!
Even though I figured out some parts before they were revealed, I couldn't see how it was going to end.
And it was a bit of a shocker!!!!

Unlikable characters and somewhat predictable twists, this is the story of a girl who's nanny goes missing and reappears 30 years later, just as the supposed body is discovered. Meh.

Gilly is quickly becoming one of my go-to authors. When I read the synopsis for this dark and twisty Mary Poppins, I was smitten! Macmillan is an accomplished and methodical writer. This book is equally as polished as her other four novels, but more of a psychological thriller/character study versus a classic thriller type story.

A slow burn, The Nanny is a a tale of secrets, lies, betrayal, and revenge. I highly recommend this book.

Although probably not my favorite Gilly MacMillan novel, this one was decent and kind of creepy/evil. Is the Nanny who she says she is, or is she not? Several unlikeable main characters and the ending was a bit far fetched, but the story did keep me guessing.

It's a slow start and gets a bit confusing - but you get the hang of it after a few chapters or so. The characters are unlikable but you start to warm up to Virginia once her behavior is explained. I say give it a go. The ending is extremely satisfying.

A young girl growing up in an aristocratic, English family is devastated when here nanny disappears unexpectedly. Years later, bones are uncovered in the lake on the property and a woman claiming to be the missing nanny, shows up at the door. Lies, deception, and family conflict is uncovered as the mysterious women becomes enmeshed in the family‘s life. This book kept me guessing about the fate of the nanny and the dead body until the end.

Couch time with Rose as I dive into this thriller by Gilly Macmillan. It‘s a quick read so far, thankfully, because my neighbor lent it to me weeks ago and I need to return it!

In 1988, Lord and Lady Holt‘s Nanny took off in the night, leaving their daughter, Jo, alone. Thirty years later, Jo is back at the family home and the nanny shows up out of nowhere. Now she has to find out why her nanny left and why is she back. I must say that there is a character in this book that is so vile and evil that I actually cheered when someone bad happened..lol. A great thriller by @HarperCollins
