Hidden Figures meets Wonder Woman in this action-packed, comic-inspired adventure about a brilliant girl coder who discovers shes part of a superhero trifecta! Josie OMalley does a lot to help out Mam after her father goes off to fight the Nazis, but she wishes she could do morelike all those great, caped crusaders during World War I who now seem to have disappeared. If Josie cant fly and control weather like her idol, Zenobia, maybe she can put her math smarts to use as one of the governments special puzzlers. After an official tosses out her puzzler test because shes a girl, it soon becomes clear that an even more top-secret agency has its eye on Josie, along with two other applicants: Akiko and Mae, both of whom share personal experiences that amplify their convictions about justice. First, Josie, Akiko, and Mae bond over their shared love of female superhero celebrities, from Fantomah to Zenobia to the Black Cat. But during one extraordinary afternoon, they find themselves transformed into the newest (and youngest!) superheroes in town. As the girls abilites slowly begin to emerge, they learn that their skills will be crucial in thwarting a shapeshifting henchman of Hitler, and, just maybe, in solving an even larger mystery about the superheroes who have gone missing in recent history.

I wanted to like this more than I did. It was good, but it wasn‘t great. Part of me wonders if that is because it is set up for future novels in the series, or just because they were trying to squeeze it into a middle grade novel. There are so many concepts, so much going on that is not explored, or just seems tossed in for effect that it appears more of a mishmash than a fully comprehensible story.

I agree with @IndoorDame it was good but not great. I‘ll get this I. The mail to @Wonderwoman89 on Monday. #lmpbc

ShelleyBooksie What age group is this for? My kiddo is 8 and it looks interesting. 4y
LibrarianRyan @ShelleyBooksie perfect age group. The cover is a bit misleading. It is about 3 girls who become superhero‘s but it takes place during Ww2 and originally the girls wanted to be “puzzlers” or code breakers. It will be a series and this book is about 5-6 months old. 4y
ShelleyBooksie Thank you @LibrarianRyan - sounds awesome 4y

For my #weekly forecast I‘m not sure exactly what I‘ll read. I will finish the tagged book (hopefully today so I can mail it Monday).

I promised to Josh to get Harlie Quinn read so he can move it to his area, plus I am still working through a pile of library GN and I hope to start my #book spin selection Legendary. We shall see.

Cinfhen Good luck 🍀💚 4y

My #weeklyforecast is quite small. I am going to get this #lmpbc book from @IndoorDame (I received it Friday) read and out the door. I‘ll probably get at least 1 GN read if not more as well.

Finished our Dec/Jan #lmpbc read for Round 7 #groupK this morning. I had mixed feelings about this one, but I‘m going to let others form their own opinions before I say more about it. I‘ll put it in the mail this week.

I‘ve been loving seeing everyone‘s #weeklyforecast and #bookreport posts the last two months, so I decided I‘d join in for the new year.

I intended to have fewer reading commitments this year, but now that I‘m actually looking at this I see
#lmpbc
#ATreeGrowsInBrooklynBuddyRead #FellowshipOfTolkien
#ChildrensClassicRead2020
#AuthorAMonth
and one book off my TBR or a volume a friend lent me...
@Cinfhen

Cinfhen So true!!! It‘s not until you see all the books that you realize how much you‘re committing too!! 4y

Pickpick

Cape is action-packed and full of girl power. Josie, Mae, and Akiko all want to do their part for the war efforts and hope to become puzzlers. Though they don't become puzzlers, they do discover they have powers and must work to thwart an evil villain's plan to aid the Nazis. I love the style which incorporates both comics & traditional chapters. It's sure to engage #middlegrade readers. Thank you to #netgalley & the publisher for the review copy.
