The Blood Gospel: The Order of the Sanguines Series | James Rollins, Rebecca Cantrell
13 posts | 45 read | 20 to read
In his first-ever collaboration, New York Times bestselling author James Rollins combines his skill for cutting-edge science and historical mystery with award-winning novelist Rebecca Cantrell's talent for haunting suspense and sensual atmosphere in a gothic tale about an ancient order and the hunt for a miraculous book known only as . . . The Blood GospelAn earthquake in Masada, Israel, kills hundreds and reveals a tomb buried in the heart of the mountain. A trio of investigatorsSergeant Jordan Stone, a military forensic expert; Father Rhun Korza, a Vatican priest; and Dr. Erin Granger, a brilliant but disillusioned archaeologistare sent to explore the macabre discovery, a subterranean temple holding the crucified body of a mummified girl. But a brutal attack at the site sets the three on the run, thrusting them into a race to recover what was once preserved in the tomb's sarcophagus: a book rumored to have been written by Christ's own hand, a tome that is said to hold the secrets to His divinity. The enemy who hounds them is like no other, a force of ancient evil directed by a leader of impossible ambitions and incalculable cunning. From crumbling tombs to splendorous churches, Erin and her two companions must confront a past that traces back thousands of years, to a time when ungodly beasts hunted the dark spaces of the world, to a moment in history when Christ made a miraculous offer, a pact of salvation for those who were damned for eternity. Here is a novel that is explosive in its revelation of a secret history. Why do Catholic priests wear pectoral crosses? Why are they sworn to celibacy? Why do the monks hide their countenances under hoods? And why does Catholicism insist that the consecration of wine during Mass results in its transformation to Christ's own blood? The answers to all go back to a secret sect within the Vatican, one whispered as rumor but whose very existence was painted for all to see by Rembrandt himself, a shadowy order known simply as the Sanguines. In the end, be warned: some books should never be found, never openeduntil now.

Big mail day!!! Book mail from the awesome @Texreader AND a knitting loom. If I suddenly go missing, I‘m either with this book or the knitting loom. Either way, I‘ll be back eventually. 🤣😂🤣 #bookmail

GingerAntics And don‘t forget the hair oil. That came today too, so I‘ll look good while doing the above. 😂 3y
Texreader Finally it arrived! So happy! It‘s not the Sigma series I think you‘ll love but I found this extra copy I had of this one and it was screaming your name. It‘s good and it‘ll give you an idea of his kind of fiction. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!! 3y
Texreader And I‘m so glad you‘re going to look marvelous while reading it! 😉 3y
GingerAntics @Texreader it sounds really good! I might have already over scheduled my January reading, but after that, things should be better. 3y

Whoops! A few duplicates! I hate it when that happens. When I can get back to a post office, I‘ll do some giveaways.

I have chosen another of my all time favourite Trilogies for today's hashtag #👹This trilogy (The Order of the Sanguines), which starts with The Blood Gospel, is a true battle between Good and Evil and the future of the world, it takes a great group of characters to the very gates of hell. I love James Rollins but I think Rebecca Cantrell took the writing to another level with this trilogy. What are you waiting for? #emojinov

TrishB This sounds good 👍 6y
Andrew65 The whole trilogy is excellent. 6y

This was a very intriguing book. I was a bit surprised as the blurb I read prior to picking it up failed to mention a very important part of the book... there are vampires. I enjoyed it and have the novella between books 1 & 2 on hold. #readathon

Off to a little bit of a slow start for the #readathon, but hope to make up for it with my TBR. The ones on the right have already been started and the ones on the left are on tap for today.

BellaBookNook I am a slow reader despite the stack of books I picked. I just love the excuse to read all day!! 7y

I've only been reading this for a couple of days and about a third of the way through. Standard thriller/religious mystery a la Dan Brown and Raymond Khoury, but it's well written for the most part and quick.

Entertaining. I thought the premise behind the book was fairly clever. I will finish the series

Yep, looks like I'm going to have to re-read Blood Gospel from the beginning. I don't remember much, but it's really interesting!

New series to listen to on night shift 📖👍🏻🔬🌙

TheBooknester Interesting, for one of my challenges it wants me to find a book by an author that shares my first name - and Rebecca is a winner, be interested to know how you like it! 8y
JoeStalksBeck @TheBooknester that's a cool challenge! These books are very Dan Brown. Based in religious history. It's a very compelling book😀 8y

This is the start to a trilogy with a very interesting take on the Lazarus story, but I am not a fan of it being a gothic vampire story. I'm over the new round of vampire obsession novels.

Still very well written, just not my cup of tea, or my favorite James Rollins series.
