Littens! I am looking for your favorite history/nonfiction (even some historical fiction) set in the U.K. and Northern Ireland. Looking for stuff set after WWII and esp. 1970s-present.

LeahBergen I recommeded this one before (it's not really a "history") 8y
LeahBergen Oops. Typo. "Recommended". ? 8y
KarouBlue May be a bit too comprehensive, but The Last Lion trilogy and The English & Their History are both very good! 8y

LibrarianJen Good thing I have a history degree! Bad thing I didn't study much of anything after WW2...but I do know about the journalist Peter Taylor. He wrote a trilogy on the IRA. 8y
12parsecs Hmmm 🤔 how about 8y
Erynecki Oops! Just realized you want post WWII stories. The willesden lane story is a kinder transport story and the aftermath of one woman's trajectory in life. It's a great read and a fabulous play. 8y
Lizpixie Written by a former IRA turned informer 8y
drokka This is set in Glasgow about the only concert Led Zeppelin ever had in Scotland. It's fiction though. Also, there's "Call the Midwife" post-WWII reconstruction - also fiction. I have to look through my books for non-fiction. 8y
SaraFair Great topic! I agree with this rec. There are several in the series set in the 50's and is great on the living conditions of the time 8y
brendanmleonard Thank you for all the recommendations! 8y
