Just a reminder: If you have a choice between buying a book at Amazon and buying a book at an independent bookstore, especially Ann Patchett's store, please make the correct choice. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/26/opinion/parnassus-books-nashville-amazon.html

(This photo is at Lake Willoughby in Vermont. I wish I could credit the photographer. Just can't remember who it is. 😞 )

saresmoore This photo is incredible! 5y
Suet624 @saresmoore it is! I look at this photo a lot. The lake itself is a spiritual spot for me. I journal there on most of my birthdays. It‘s a glacial lake and looks like a fjord. It‘s magnificent. This photo doesn‘t show that, so I thought I‘d add some context to it. (edited) 5y
TheBookStacker I wish we had a local bookstore close to me unfortunately we only have Barnes and noble. 5y

Suet624 @TheBookStacker my views on BN have changed. Anything is better than Amazon. 😁 5y
Graciouswarriorprincess I just read this article. 5y
ValerieAndBooks My oldest has lived in Nashville for almost a year, and I hope to visit him and Parnassus Books soon! The only time I shop at amazon is if I‘m given a gift card. Most of my books are bought used, but at least it supports the local economy! 5y
Suet624 @Valerieandbooks I lived outside of Nashville years ago. A fun place to visit. I‘m the same with used books and gift cards. Except recently I actually exchanged the gift card for a little less cash with a friend. It‘s really hard to avoid Amazon but I try my best. 😁 (edited) 5y

Found this little book appropriately enough at Octavia Books on my trip to New Orleans. Took an Uber specifically there as last time I was here I didn't get to go to one bookstore😢

#TBT to #IndependentBookstoreDay at my favorite indie, @OneMorePageBooks - me and two other enthusiastic staffers sing "Total Eclipse of the Heart" for Bookseller Karaoke. The more Staff Picks we sold, the more ridiculous songs we sang. ? #getindie

LauraBeth Cool way to sell books! 😀 8y

MrBook Oh, this is good. Added! 8y
Lola Me, too! I bought this on one of my IBD stops. Then at another, I was hand sold a book listed in the essay "Booksellers Love to Recommend Books" "bookserendipity 8y

This pair of essays only increased my desire to have an independent bookstore. Also, I've not read any of Ann Patchett's novels, but if the writing is anything like this, I am going to love her.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Maike I guess having your own bookstore is almost everyone's dream 😍 8y
dairine State of Wonder is on my literal to-read shelf going on 2 years-ish... I was taking by the first page and brought it home. 8y
kdwinchester Every bookstore needs a bookstore dog or cat. Or both!! 🐶🐱 8y

sapnasricharan I haven't read any of her novels either. But I have read another of her essay collections called 'This is the story of a happy marriage'. I thoroughly enjoyed that. And I think I'll like this even more. I love books about books and bookstores. 8y
