Hector and the Search for Happiness
Hector and the Search for Happiness: A Novel (Movie Tie-in) | François Lelord
Now a major motion picture starring Simon Pegg, Rosamund Pike, Toni Collette, and Christopher Plummer The international bestseller with more than two million copies sold “Once upon a time there was a young psychiatrist called Hector who was not very satisfied with himself. . . . And so he decided to take a trip around the world, and everywhere he went he would try to understand what made people happy or unhappy.” Hector travels from Paris to China to Africa to the United States, and along the way he keeps a list of observations about the people he meets. Combining the winsome appeal of The Little Prince with the inspiring philosophy of The Alchemist, Hector’s journey around the world and into the human soul is entertaining, empowering, and smile-inducing—as winning in its optimism as it is wise in its simplicity.

This a book that can be read quite fast. The content is quite simple but I do believe it makes the reader think about his life situation especially talking about happiness. Definitely recommend it.

I thought this quirky little book was a real charmer. Hector takes a trip around the world to learn what makes people happy, and to try and find a secret to happiness. #HappyInTheTitle #magnificentmarch

I really enjoyed this book. The story itself was well written and very easy to get into. I found the majority of the characters very loveable, but of course Hector was my favourite. Excited to hear that there's more in the series, and now I can't wait to read the next one. I also have high hopes for the movie, and I HAVE to see it. 💗

On top of the 47 (😳😳😳) books I took out from the library today, I also bought these three for 99cents a piece! All three were on my TBR, and that's a price I simply couldn't pass up. #LitsypartyofOne

I was on the fence about this book before with Hector's female characters and pursuits but this is probably the final straw. How dare the character, Hector, a psychiatrist, is asked to medically assist a woman on a plane and learns how she had a tumor removed from her brain and is in terrible pain from a headache and he just thinks about IS HOW SHE USED TO BE PRETTY AND MUST MISS THE ATTENTION OF MEN?!? I. can't.

Not sure how I feel about this one...it was kind of The Alchemist meets The Good Body, but in a weirdly instructional sort of way. Except the sort of way where I am now, at the end, not too confident in the plan.

(1/2) One day they take you to the top of a very steep ski slope and tell you you'll have great fun if you just follow them. In fact they've only taken you up there because they are excellent skiers and love skiing down very steep slopes...

avkreads (2/2)...And you don't enjoy yourself at all trying to keep up with them, you're scared, you fall over and you wish it would end, but you have to get down the slope anyway and you have a miserable time while those morons, your friends, fly over the moguls shrieking with joy. #storyofmylife (edited) 7y

It is a really nice story, very easy to read and quite entertaining. I share the opinion of other reviews I've read that it was weird to mix very important and interesting life lessons with the author's love life which had little connection with the message he intended to give throughout the book.

Searching for Happiness on a SundayğŸ€ğŸŒ»!
Today I chose to read real book vs Kindle!

I've put aside this book for a couple years just because I didnt get it back them. Taking it again a few years older it gives you another perspective. Dont you think?

BooksTeasAndBookishThings Welcome to Litsy!!! 😊â¤ğŸ™ŒğŸ“šğŸ‰ 7y
PeruvianBookWorm @BooksTeasAndBookishThings thank you!! Im so happy! I found it by chance and I love itt! Great connecting with other book lovers! 7y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings It is the BEST place!!! And following a LOT of active people is the greatest way to get the most out of it. Sadly a lot of people join, but then they don't follow enough people and they miss out on the experience. I cannot recommend this app enough, though ⤠Great people and really looking forward to your posts and recommends 😊 7y
PeruvianBookWorm Thanks for such a nice welcoming post :) yes! Whenever I can I am swimming through the app to do just that! Also learning how to use it, understanding giveaways and such. I live in Peru but I love reading in english and books from around the world! 🌠im adding books to my To Read list like crazy 💃💃💃 7y

This is a book about a psychiatrist named Hector who goes on a search to find out what makes people happy. It's a short read, I read it in one sitting. It was an enjoyable read.

First of all, I want to thank everyone for being so kind and for suggesting many interesting books in my previous post. Litsy is the BEST. â¤ï¸

This is @JaimitaPR 's pick. I chose it because Hector was a psychiatrist and I'm feeling a bit unhappy lately. The writing is simplified as if meant for children but, surely, children wouldn't be searching for happiness. The list reminded me a little of Bhuddism. It helped me recover and I'm glad I read it.

BookishMarginalia @JaimitaPR introduced me to this book too ğŸ‘ğŸ¼ğŸ˜ğŸ’š 8y
pppooraikul @BookishMarginalia @JaimitaPR That's really great! What do you think of the book? Btw, I'm constantly amazed at how @Litsy achieves its goal. ğŸ‘📚 8y
BookishMarginalia This one I really liked. I bailed on his other one about love (I found it too disjointed and cliched at the time -- might need to take a second look) 8y
See All 7 Comments
pppooraikul @BookishMarginalia I haven't tried that one yet. But I think the author, as a psychiatrist, might understand happiness way better than love. So (in my opinion) it's possible that the second book's not as good. 🤔 8y
Laalaleighh I'm so glad your pick did the trick!! 8y
pppooraikul @Laalaleighh Thanks! â˜ºï¸ I'm planning to read the others soon (must take quite a bit of time, though!) 8y

Apparently Hector just needs to get busy with various women he meets in his travels to find true happiness - girlfriend be damned!

Such a bland, simple book that really goes nowhere and has an equally dull protagonist. There's not much here to latch on to and I simply shrugged with indifference.
