Moray_Reads @Lcsmcat @Tamra a common misconception, my friends. You're far more likely to cause damage through the loss of sensitivity caused by wearing gloves than by the old in your hands (as long as they're clean!). I was working with the Gutenberg Bible the other week and even the big G doesn't get the glove treatment any more, only photographs. 6y

Moray_Reads @Tamra Probably because TV companies LOVE the gloves because people associate them with old, valuable, important books. Gutenberg doesn't come out much but occasionally we need it. The boxes for the two volumes even have breathing holes! 6y

Texreader I had to wear gloves at the Texas Archives when I was researching in the rare section. It‘s been a few years but I‘m not sure the white gloves have been completely abandoned. Glad to hear they are on their way out. 6y
