"Her scream echoes in my memory. I know what happened. Whether anyone believes me or not, I know."Sean Suh is done with killing. After serving three years in a psychiatric prison, he's determined to stay away from temptation. But he can't resist Annabelle--beautiful, confident, incandescent Annabelle--who alone can see past the monster to the man inside. The man he's desperately trying to be.Then Annabelle disappears.Sean is sure she's been kidnapped--he witnessed her being taken firsthand--but the police are convinced that Sean himself is at the center of this crime. And he must admit, his illness has caused him to "lose time" before. What if there's more to what happened than he's able to remember?Though haunted by the fear that it might be better for Annabelle if he never finds her, Sean can't bring himself to let go of her without a fight. To save her, he'll have to do more than confront his own demons... He'll have to let them loose.A chilling, deeply suspenseful page-turner set in the 1980s, Hunting Annabelle is a stunning debut that will leave you breathless to the very end.

Well, since I‘m early shift tomorrow, I‘ll be getting up at 4:30 so I‘m off to bed to hopefully not dream about serial killers. 🤣🤣 did get my final two hours of #October8in2 in for #Scarathlon so 20 more points to #TeamSlaughter. @Clwojick

This kept me glued to the page all the way through. What makes it a riveting novel is having such an unreliable narrator; Sean, previously institutionalized and diagnosed with schizophrenia, is ravaged with violent thoughts, but he‘s constantly wrestling with his desire to get better. Things become very complicated when he meets Annabelle. This will take you on a wild ride.

kamoorephoto @CocoReads Being stuck inside Sean‘s mind really was an unsettling experience...author Wendy Heard does a good job of making the reader frightened FOR and OF him. 4y
CocoReads @kamoorephoto I read Carved in Darkness by Maegan Beaumont a couple of months ago—also disturbing. I have the second book in that series up to read this month too. So many good books! 4y
Clwojick Ooooh. Off to look into this more! It sounds so good! 4y

This was so close to a 5 star read for me, but I'm going with 4 stars. The author had me up until the ending, I'm not sure why she chose to finish things the way she did, but I just couldn't accept it. I will say though, this was a wild ride, I really enjoyed the maddening view we get from Sean's character. #NetGalley #NetGalleyReviewathon #bookspinbingo

This was dark and twisted, and even though I guessed the twist before it was revealed, I still enjoyed it. A fast read too!

My small #libraryhaul from yesterday with tonight‘s dinner ahi California roll poke, tofu poke & brown rice. 😋I renewed the tagged book to try to get around to reading it. The top two books I got for $1.00 at the library bookstore. Both are on my #TBR list.

Cinfhen I just finished the audio of Tattooist 😭😭😭😭I wasn‘t expecting to be so affected. I thought it was excellent 4y
DebinHawaii @Cinfhen Good to hear! 👍 4y
DebinHawaii @Cinfhen I think both of the two I bought are not easy reads 😭😭😭 4y
Cinfhen Yes, I‘ve heard Girls is really a gut punch / I mean the title alone is pretty distressing 4y

This book was dark and twisted , but I wouldn‘t say graphic. It was between a pick and so-so. I liked the writing, easy to read and quick paced. A lot of twists and turns that I didn‘t see coming. My so-so would probably be the ending. I just didn‘t like it. I may have been horrified by it or just disappointed. 😔 Read it and decide for yourself.😎 I‘ve seen a lot of mixed reviews. I will say, I would read another by this author.

Nope, read chapter and I just couldn‘t go on. Too many things annoyed me 1)copious use of adjectives, 2)couldn‘t believe a girl would just start playing tonsil tag with the guy who is clearly creepy and 3) don‘t know why the author who doesn‘t identify as Asian-American chose to have her protagonist be?!

Book H: i was so excited for this book and subsequently so let down. I was drawn in by the beginning and then i realized that there is such a thing as too many/crazy plot twists. The whole second half was outrageous and the ending was extremely rushed.

⭐️⭐️/5

4/5 ⭐️. I‘ve been reading a lot of fantasy & fairy tale/myth retellings lately, so I decided to read “outside my genre” with the book that came in my December Scribbler box. I LOVED the unreliable narrator, as well as the constant questioning about his sanity. I was glued to the pages and finished it in less than one day. Wasn‘t the biggest fan of the “twist”, but it was still very well written. Definitely recommend.

This dark psychological thriller will take you on a wild ride where you are captivated & repelled by the story that unfolds! This was a twisted tale told by an unreliable narrator who I liked & yet was appalled by. The twists in this plot are zingers! The characters are well developed and memorable, even though you truly don‘t want to remember them. The way this story develops I was helpless not to be drawn into it. Review at www.thegenreminx.com

Long time no see! 😅 I hope everyone is having a wonderful start of the weekend... I will be spending my Friday evening with a new story and one of the pending 2018 NG ARCs: Hunting Annabelle by Wendy Heard. I always like to go in blind, so I totally didn't expect the mental health angle! I'm definitely curious how things will develop...

What are you reading this weekend?

Ashley85 This one sounds interesting but intense! Curious to hear your thoughts on it. 5y
yvo_about_books @Ashley85 it definitely wasn't what I was expecting! I had some issues with credibility and some of the plot twists, but overall it was an interesting and quite original read. It did read more YA than adult though despite the twenty-something characters. 5y
