I read lots and lots this week, like a badass!

For prose, I finished AMETHYST, THE SAGAS OF ICELANDERS, THE COLLECTED STORIES OF COLETTE, and FROM THE ASHES by Jesse Thistle (not pictured).

For comics, I tore through five volumes to finish my WicDiv reread/catch-up. What a great series.

I was so busy with the chunksters and the comics binges that I never touched TRIAL BY DESIRE or MCSWEENEY‘S. Next week.

#bookreport

Reviewsbylola I‘m in love with that Colette cover. (edited) 4y

Pre-bed tea & Colette. I found myself only 100 pages from the end after my daily short story, so I‘ve decided to finish the collection before I start another novel.

#bookreport time!

I finished FIFTH QUARTER, ESSEX COUNTY, and THE ULTIMATE PI DAY PARTY. I really liked them all, but none of them made it into the love spectrum.

I hit the halfway point with Colette (which, I should note, is 600 oversized pages) and made good progress through MONDO COCKTAIL.

I bailed on BRANDED BY FLAMES.

And I‘ll probably start my WicDiv reread today, unless I get distracted or I forget.

I tried really hard not to buy anything in January, but fate conspired against me. A bunch of my Google Play survey credit expired, so I quickly bought two books to use up the remainder in case it was also on the chopping block. Then, having already marred my Spending Log page, I figured I might as well grab THE COLLECTED STORIES OF COLETTE when it showed up at the thrift store. My library‘s Colette collection is not what it could be.

thebluestocking I‘d say that‘s a success! 💙 I tried hard not to spend in January too. I got four books with Christmas gift cards and one book with actual money. Mixed bag. 🤷‍♀️ 4y
ljuliel You did pretty good, I‘d say. That‘s not very much money 4y
dariazeoli Under five bucks is excellent! 4y

xicanti @thebluestocking @ljuliel @dariazeoli I worry less about the money than the toll on my TBR. I try really, really hard not to buy stuff unless I can also read it right away. 4y
Chrissyreadit That‘s an amazing spending log!!! 4y
thebluestocking That‘s a good way of looking at it. From that lens, I read all five of the books I bought in January in the month of January. 💙 4y

1. Any format whatsoever, though I avoid thick hardcovers and larger trade paperbacks when possible.

2. The library, thrift stores, or Kobo.

3. Yep.

4. The library, via OverDrive or RBDigital.

5. I got THE COLLECTED STORIES OF COLETTE on my last trip to the thrift store. It‘s a delight so far, even if it IS a larger trade paperback.

Treats from a bookshop in Galway, Ireland. This cover definitely had me at hello.

Another case of a misogynist man taking credit for a woman‘s work. I‘m an admirer of Colette‘s work and excited to see this ...

Hey Litsy folks. A recent Brainpickings post piqued my interest in reading some Colette. Anyone have suggestions about where to start?

Flaneurette I liked my mothers house & sido. I remember it being impressionistic vignettes about motherhood, childhood and memory. 7y
merelybookish @Flaneurette Thank you! Somehow it seems totally a propos that someone named Flaneurette has read Colette. 🙂 7y
