★★★★★

Powerful because it felt authentic.

Recommended by my daughter, Sarah.

I wasn't sure if I was going to like this, but I definitely did. It's a classic for a reason.

I found it hard to follow the flow among the narrators in print form, so it had to stand on its considerable merits as a poetry collection. I'd love to see a stage production, which must bring a whole added dimension to the poetry.

An interesting cross between a play and poetry, very moving and powerful, and I can only imagine it would be even more-so in a live performance.

I think this would be incredible on stage. Some of the stories were really powerful. But I struggled with reading the “script”. #readingwomenchallenge #play

I don‘t read as much poetry as I used to but Ntozake Shane passed away recently and I wanted to revisit.

A member of a NaNo Group asked the question: What Character or book allowed you to see yourself? (we are talking about representation) and I instantly thought of The For Colored Girls Play. And especially about this quote. Because boy does it still ring long and damn clear! #quotes #representation #powerfulwords

I don‘t read a lot of poetry or plays, but I‘m so glad I read this. Beautiful and incredibly powerful. I would love to see this performed live

I keep looking for a line or two to quote, but then I end up wanting to quote the whole page! So instead, I‘ll just recommend everyone read the book 😋

These past few days I feel as if I am looking at the world around me through a very cynical eye. I am thinking about the pain that comes with being the darkest person in a room - forced or asked to explain the actions or decisions of others that look like me. And sometimes having my emotions cast aside because others refuse to understand. So today this quote is so close to my heart.... #thoughts #raw #forcoloredgirls

BookishFeminist What a great quote. I love this play. Sorry you've had to deal with ignorant people on top of what has already been a hard week. Last thing you should have to do is educate folks. Hope you've had some time around people you feel comfortable around, too. Always here if you need to talk. 💓 (edited) 7y

Read it out loud to yourself with jazz playing. You will know yourself differently.

A nice choice for National Poetry Month and a treat for myself.
