Room to Dream
Room to Dream | David Lynch, Kristine McKenna
20 posts | 10 read | 1 reading | 9 to read
An unprecedented look into the personal and creative life of the visionary auteur David Lynch, through his own words and those of his closest colleagues, friends, and family In this unique hybrid of biography and memoir, David Lynch opens up for the first time about a life lived in pursuit of his singular vision, and the many heartaches and struggles hes faced to bring his unorthodox projects to fruition. Lynchs lyrical, intimate, and unfiltered personal reflections riff off biographical sections written by close collaborator Kristine McKenna and based on more than one hundred new interviews with surprisingly candid ex-wives, family members, actors, agents, musicians, and colleagues in various fields who all have their own takes on what happened. Room to Dream is a landmark book that offers a onetime all-access pass into the life and mind of one of our most enigmatic and utterly original living artists. With insights into . . . Eraserhead The Elephant Man Dune Blue Velvet Wild at Heart Twin Peaks Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me Lost Highway The Straight Story Mulholland Drive INLAND EMPIRE Twin Peaks: The Return

David Lynch is weirdo goals. If you don't have a solid familiarity with his work, this book will probably lose you, but it's indispensable for fans.

I have been a fan of David Lynch for a long time, his film, ´Blue Velvet´, is among my favorites and, ´Twin Peaks´, one of my favorite series. This memoir takes a peek into his life and how it influenced his work. There is plenty of detail, some juicy quotes and anecdotal memories, but it gets a bit repetitive at times. There is about 100 interviews and lots of B&W photos.

readordierachel Such an interesting man. I remember being so surprised to hear how much he loves transcendental meditation! 9mo

It took a power outage for me to take a break from other projects and just sit and read. Happy to make this my first book of 2019! #davidlynch

Trying to complete my “in-progress” books before the new year. Probably won‘t, but I‘m enjoying the time for my own personal readathon.

I don't listen to audiobooks very often, but I'm going to try to add more to my regular reading. Here are three I have queued up for 2019!

Though I loved Twin Peaks, I‘ve not been able to sit through most of David Lynch‘s movies. They disturb me too much! His childhood was easy and nice to read about. Learning about his steep love of Transcendental Meditation was enlightening. He really has the mindfulness thing down. I admire him for that. I was very entertained by this book. Loved some parts, disliked others. 😺

Brain weasels stopped me from reading much over August, but at least I finally finished this. It was really great, and I want David Lynch to be my friend. And also I want to rewatch everything he's ever made. (The picture is the most Lynchian photo I've ever taken)

"I love plumbing, and then I could do plumbing of copper pipes coming out, but not shiny new copper - it would be old copper. Then I'd have different kinds of sinks and plumbing and faucets. I don't have a clue why this appeals to me, but the look of it and the design of it is thrilling. Plumbing is guiding water, and controlling water is such a thrill."

Spending my weekend cat sitting. Got three books and fifty years of Godzilla movies. Gonna make a dent in the Lynch biography, but will break it up with some other stuff too.

I'm not sure what to expect from this, but David Lynch is one of my favourite film makers, so whatever he has to say, I'm looking forward to it.

The trouble with having a large 'To Read' pile is that it means you have to occasionally make some tough decisions.

Making progress on this one. I love this hybrid biography/autobiography. Since it‘s been a bad year for me so far, I decided to plan a trip to Los Angeles for David Lynch‘s Festival of Disruption in October. I can‘t wait!

readordierachel Sorry you've had a bad year. Festival of Disruption sounds awesome though! 2y

It‘s been awhile since I‘ve been on here. I‘ve had a lot of life stuff happen. My grandma passed last month which has been hard and stressful tying up all her financial loose ends. I‘ve also been dealing with some pretty bad health issues that turned out to be Lyme. Working way too much and starting school soon. It‘s a lot, but I‘m trying to find pockets of time to relax.

AshleyHoss820 Oh my!! I‘m so sorry! I hope the rest of your year goes better! 😕😕 2y

😍 The one and only David Lynch! I can‘t wait to read this memoir. He is by far my favorite director. I‘ve been a fan since I was 18 and watched Twin Peaks. I love how he shows the ugly sides of beauty. And he‘s wonderfully weird. Episode 8 of Twin Peaks: The Return was amazing!! I rarely fan girl over anyone but David Lynch? 🤩
