Hope: A Tragedy
Hope: A Tragedy | Shalom Auslander
4 posts | 13 read | 18 to read
‘The humour, at times can leave you gasping . . . comic brilliance’ Sunday Times Solomon Kugel has had enough of the past and its burdens. So, in the hope of starting afresh, he moved his family to a small rural town where nothing of import has ever happened. Sadly, Kugel’s life isn’t that simple. His family soon find themselves threatened by a local arsonist and his ailing mother won't stop reminiscing about the Nazi concentration camps she didn’t actually suffer through. And when, one night, Kugel discovers a living, breathing, thought-to-be-dead specimen of history hiding in his attic, bad very quickly becomes worse. ‘Singularly inventive and superbly shocking . . . nothing short of genius’ Scotland on Sunday ‘He will make you laugh until your heart breaks’ New York Times Book Review

#animalcovers for #riotgrams. I'm intrigued by the title and cover of this book! One of the walls in my bedroom is covered with my photographs - it makes for an interesting background!

Book mail again today, this time for my younger son. In addition to regular curriculum that they must read, his AP Lit class breaks up in groups and each group chooses a book to read, analyze, and discuss. This is his group's current choice. I'll probably read this after he does.

ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled This looks interesting!! You had me at "AP Lit" - ha ha! 7y

susanw I loved this book! It's so hard to describe to someone, it's such a wacky premise. 7y
slategreyskies I used to have a shower curtain that looked just like that in my very first apartment. My bathroom was orange and black! :) 7y

Ok, it's an odd pairing, but in Auslanders dark comedic book, Anne Frank is found hiding in his attic, in rural New York, in current day! It's a great book. #seasonsreadings2016 #fictionnonfictionpairings @RealLifeReading
