The Seeing Stone
The Seeing Stone | Kevin Crossley-Holland

The year is 1199, the place the Welsh Marches. Young Arthur de Caldicot is given a shining stone in which his legendary namesake is revealed. In 100 short chapters that brilliantly evoke life in a medieval manor, stories of the boy King Arthur begin to echo and anticipate the secrets and mysteries that emerge in his own life. as bright and as vivid as the pictures in a Book of Hours. Deep scholarship, high imagination, and great gifts of storytelling have gone into this; I was spellbound. Philip Pullman, The Guardian instantly evokes T H Whites The Once and Future King in blending the pastoral idyll of a medieval manor with the myths of King Arthur. There the similarity ends this is truly a crossover book, settling in the interesting space between childrens and adult fiction. The Times

Pickpick

The Arthurian legend, told from Arthur‘s point of view at the age of 12. Part I of a trilogy. Very engaging! I‘m excited to read the next books to see how the legend develops. Right now, it‘s hard to see how he will become the king he is destined to be.

One of my favourite King Arthur retellings (with plenty of crusade action too!)

Glad to have an excuse to show off this stack! They're the book haul I bought from Neilson Hays Library's #usedbook sale earlier this year. Used books mean discarded library books in this case. Only $1.43 each. The sale is marvellous. This library is one of the most sacred places I take refuge to. ☺️❤️📚 #augustofpages #augustphotochallenge

pppooraikul @MrBook Thanks! 😁 8y
SusanInTiburon Some people seem to hate ex library books; I like them! 8y
