11 posts | 5 read | 10 to read
In this smart, riveting new novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Paris Architect, a man in disgrace finds that revenge is the only road he can take Architect Douglas Layton has lost everything. One of his beautiful music halls fell to pieces during a packed performance, killing dozens. Layton knows the flaw was not in his design; someone else must have caused the dreadful catastrophe. But with no proof and a hoard of furious Londoners screaming for blood, someone has to take the fall - and Layton finds himself facing a five-year prison sentence. When he is finally freed, Layton is determined to start over. With a new name and identity, he takes a job as a set painter for a theater hall. But as Layton begins to discover dead bodies hidden within theater halls across London, it soon becomes clear that something darker is chasing him. When he unearths a clue that ties the bodies to the disaster that ruined him, he knows that redemption - and revenge - are within his reach... unless the culprit gets to him first.

Despite reading a BUNCH last week, the #WeeklyForecast somehow has the windowsill as packed as ever. So mysterious! 😂 I actually finished The Soulmate Equation this morning, and The True Love Experiment is next. The tagged book is the week's #14books14weeks2023 read, and then I'm hoping to get through The Archives of the Invisible Sword trilogy for the #BacklistReadathon. The Grand Sophy is also pretty high on the list for #LMPBC. We will see ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) how much reading I get done this week - the garden is in need of a LOT of weeding attention, I'm spending all day Tuesday at the summer meeting of the Ohio Fruit Growers Association (never gone before so I'm excited haha), and hopefully a day helping Grandpa stain the breakfast nook. So we'll see how it goes!!

Bailedbailed

I bailed at page 76. It‘s too much of an information dump about early 20th century. Facts in fiction should color the writing, not dictate it.

How could his theater have collapsed? Everything was done perfectly to all the specifications.

Mr. Belfoure has written another marvelous, interest-keeping novel with a well-researched story line.

THE FALLEN ARCHITECT will be enjoyed by historical fiction fans, fans of mysteries, artists, architects, and anyone who enjoys books set in London and this time period.

Mr. Belfoure has written another marvelous, interest-keeping novel with a well-researched story line. His writing is smooth, detailed, and kept me turning the pages. LOVED the book.

ENJOY when you read Mr. Belfoure‘s newest. 5/5

This book was given to me as an ARC. All opinions are my own.

An architect is blamed for the deaths of 14 people when a balcony collapses in a public building he designs. Specifically, he‘s convicted of and served time for murder. It‘s this and other leaps of legal and investigative logic which put me off this book. If you can suspend belief a bit, it‘s an entertaining historical mystery. #netgalley

@Jess7

Anticipated.

I always enjoy Charles Belfoure's books.

Read these - both good reads.

THE PARIS ARCHITECT https://silversolara.blogspot.com/2013/09/the-paris-architect-by-charles-belfour...

HOUSE OF THIEVES https://silversolara.blogspot.com/2015/09/house-of-thieves-by-charles-belfoure.h...

I haven't read any of Greer Macallister's books, but this book looks good. Ms. Macallister wrote THE MAGICIAN'S LIE.
