Crazy Weather
Crazy Weather | Charles L. McNichols
3 posts | 1 to read
Ursula K. Le Guin selected Crazy Weather for her contribution to Pharos Editions citing Charles McNichols “offhanded skill, the ease with which (he) takes us deep into a complex society and the complex minds and hearts of its people.” In four days of "glory-hunting" with an Indian comrade, South Boy, who is white, realizes he must choose between two cultures. Le Guin explains how she finds Crazy Weather to be “about a soul not at home and not at peace: South Boy, who on the verge of manhood is living in and between two worlds, without a clear way to go in either.” Crazy Weather is a unique tale of American identity that serves as “an important document in our cultural history.”

The_Penniless_Author Ha, Vermont is one day behind you. Was 65 and sunny yesterday, in the 50s and crazy windy today, then in the teens tomorrow (and then back to sunny and 60 by Saturday). What a weird winter! 2mo

It's supposed to hit 100 in Phoenix today. #bleh Contests go on every year as to what will be the first date it hits 100. April is too early! 🥵 And, in case you're wondering, the 4 words Arizonans hate more than anything from April-September are “It's a dry heat.“ 🤣🤣🤣

As recently as two weeks ago, it was below freezing and there was six inches of snow on the ground. Today, it was 80 degrees with a beautiful thunderstorm. I love thunderstorms. And as a side note, now that I know this book exists (though I was only using it for the title) I might just have to read it.

Palimpsest Sounds like Wisconsin, haha. 6y
Bookish_AF It also sounds like New York 😜 6y
GarthRanzz Same here. We went from snow to 80°, back to snow then back up to 80° again Sunday then rain since then. 6y

elizabethlk I am in Canada. Two weeks ago it was snowing. Today was 30 degrees Celsius and humid. I don't want either of these things honestly. 6y
Scurvygirl Sounds like spring! 😻😹 My favorite time of year in New England. Rain, snow, 20, 80.. who knows? But Mother Nature prevails!🌷 6y
