Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions
Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions | Gloria Steinem
A bestselling first collection of humorous and insightful essays by a luminary of the womens liberation movement These essays from Gloria Steinems first three decades of work offer a portrait of a woman who was not only one of the savviest leaders of the womens liberation movement, but also a profoundly humane thinker with a wide-ranging intellect and irresistible wit. In If Men Could Menstruate, Steinem engages readers in a flight of imagination as incisive as it is hilarious. She offers first-person journalism in her underground expos I Was a Playboy Bunny, provides heartbreaking memoir in the story of her mothers struggles in Ruths Song, and stakes important positions in feminist theory in Erotica vs. Pornography. This is Steinem at her most provocativeand most compassionate.

These essays, originally published in 1983 are still relevant and insightful. favorites include how periods would be seen if men menstruated and not women and would be seen as a sign of strength and virility. Also loved the classic essay about her time undercover as a playboy bunny. Found the one about women becoming more radical as they age to be thought-provoking as well. #40thbdaychallenge #1983

Art + Feminism... Heck ya! I immediately saw this Twitter thread and thought of my Litten friend @TheBookHippie.

If this is your kind of humor too, here's a link to it: https://twitter.com/nicsigni/status/1125786676016685056?s=19

Give me all the Gloria Steinem forever and ever! I wish she was my next door neighbour so I could chat with her all the time about the important topics she discusses. Given that is highly unlikely, I'm grateful I can read all of her books instead.

#ReadingResolutions Day 12: Two of my favourite #Activists are Alice Walker and Gloria Steinem. Got these two gorgeous titles from my international school librarian friend who is downsizing her book collection as their family moves to Beijing.

Chrissyreadit I love the titles! And of course, think they are both kick a@@ women. 6y

Thank goodness for slow days at work so I can absorb great audiobooks like this. I definitely feel inspired to do an outrageous feminist act every day! This is a lot of Gloria's earlier essays so it's interesting to see what the feminist movement was about then, how it's changed, and how far we still have to go.
