This was an interesting premise and a nice story but it didn't draw me in like I'd hoped. It struggled to hold my attention and I enjoyed the other letter mysteries he solved more. The ending was right for the book but it also felt a little rushed. I would have liked to have seen more with him and Clare at the end. That being said it was still a good read. #Netgalley 3*

I never finished July, so I will read that memoir first. Not sure if I will get to August…

When I found this book in a dollar bookstall, I was instantly in love with it- the cover, the smell, the way in which pages were cut, the lightness.
And then there's Winter and her letters. A lot of reviews suggested that it had an abrupt ending, but if the book is really good, does it matter how it ends?? For me, William, Winter, and Clare did a great job of keeping me engrossed in their thoughts and views but they also gave me some Hope.....

Starting this novel tonight. The protagonist works as a detective of lost letters and packages for the Royal Mail. Hoping to keep the #quarandreams away!

So I wasn't sure about this book till I was halfway through. William works for the undeliverable letter division of the post office. He finds several letters from Winter, as she is looking/dreaming of her one true love.

William's job was fascinating to me; that aspect carried me through this book. The few chapters that focused on Clare detracted from my overall liking of this book. I didn't feel like her character was as well fleshed out as William's. I appreciate what the author was trying to do by giving both sides of their story, but I think it missed the mark in Clare's case. All in all, this is a good story -- not great, but good.

It‘s been a long time since I‘ve browsed with no intent for a library book and I quite enjoyed this read! William is a letter detective - a man whose job it is to redirect letters that have become lost but it‘s also about his marriage, how it‘s falling apart and if it can be saved (does he want it to be saved?)

This was not quite what I expected based on the description. But I mostly liked it! #howjessreadsin2019

Is there anything more fascinating than the Dead Letters Depot where all the letters that go astray in the mail end up & where William Woolf works. All those letters to to Santa, God & Elvis. Those love letters with the incorrect address. The wedding invitations and birthday cards. All those lost words and feelings, collected and cared for by 30 Letter Detectives. What a smashingly cool job! Too bad the story didn‘t match the premise. @24in48 #2

Loved the premise of this: that there's a branch of Royal Mail that attempts to deliver post that has incorrect/missing addresses etc.

"They are all the culprits of missed birthdays, broken hearts, unheard confessions, pointless accusations, unpaid bills and unanswered prayers"

BUT the story isn't really about that. It's mainly about a disintegrating marriage (actually very keenly observed&well written).

? for the first 2/3 but weak ending

People working to return lost letters to their destinations is the premise, and William is a fantastic letter investigator. His relationship with wife, Clare, hard hitting lawyer, is told with love, from awkward beginnings to unhappy present. The sense of magic and exploration, both of their current relationships and the people they want to be, leaps off the page. Will mysterious letter writer Winter will be William's cure or an intangible curse.
