Honeysuckle Dreams

I make honeysuckle cake once a year when the vines are in full bloom around our garden and it's always a big deal for us around here: from picking the honeysuckle, letting it soak overnight, to straining and making the syrup the next morning!
Two vanilla cake layers covered in buttercream frosting (honeysuckle syrup included). This year Haven decorated it for me with honeysuckle vine and lemon balm from our garden.

kyraleseberg @Dragon I pick a few cups and soak them in boiling water overnight. The next day I strain the flowers out and boil equal cups honeysuckle water and sugar to make the syrup. It smells and tastes amazing! I also like to add a tsp or two to a glass of sweet tea! 5y

kyraleseberg @charl08 @Kaye Thanks! I saw a recipe for a honeysuckle cake in the book Honey and Jam by Hannah Queen several years ago. I use my own vanilla cake and buttercream frosting recipes but I go by her syrup amounts to add in the cake batter and frosting. 5y

Dragon Sounds lovely. As kids we used to pick honeysuckle blossoms and suck the nectar out. This syrup sounds good!!! 5y

Did I just read a made for tv movie script? #HallmarkChannel may shop for movie rights with the #BlueRidgeRomance series. Simply, friends turned spouses of convenience. I think the best thing about this book was that the wedding wasn't the conclusion. Rather it was in the middle of the story allowing for further character development after the marriage was legal. Spoiler: they rescue each other before the happily ever after.

Oh to be back between the covers with Denise Hunter in this wonderful series is a treat! From page 1, I was hooked and I read flat out to the last! The characters are so well-written, easy to relate to and even the idea of marrying a friend to gain the guardianship of not-his-baby seems believable, and well, quite reasonable! I was definitely rooting for this couple! [ 282 more words ]
