Papa Goriot

#7Days7Covers Day 2

@sisilia, you may be the only person not playing yet. 7 days, 7 covers you love, no explanation. Try to tag someone new each day.

sisilia 😆 Ok ðŸ‘🻠Thanks, Liz! 5y
BarbaraBB What a weird cover! It doesn‘t seem to have anything in common with the story itself?! 5y
BarbaraBB @sisilia Looking forward to some #nyrb covers 😉 5y

This edition was printed in 1896. I had to cut pages as I read, meaning a book that was meant to be read had to wait 125 years. Kinda sad. But I‘m honored to finally do it the honors.

Leftcoastzen That‘s so weird when that happens .I‘m always thinking “Really? None of you slobs actually read this?†5y
jveezer Exactly. This is one of the more popular titles in his oeuvre. So if they didn‘t read this one, they probably didn‘t read the obscure ones. So why did you buy 40 volumes of Balzac? 5y

It is always assumed by the empty-headed, who chatter about themselves for want of something better, that people who do not discuss their affairs openly must have something to hide.

Pickpick

Fascinating story about the boarders of a house in Paris. Father Goriot is one of them. This formerly wealthy man now lives in poverty to let his greedy daughters live their spoiled lives among Paris' upperclass. All the characters are worked out very well. No one is really likable, which makes this story so fascinating and ultimately very sad. #1001books
