Writing Voice: The Complete Guide to Creating a Presence on the Page and Engaging Readers | Writer's Digest Editors
6 posts | 2 read | 3 to read
Develop a voice that captures readers' attention! All writers bring a unique set of skills to their work: One author might write outstanding characters, while another might dazzle with dialogue. You don't have to master every aspect of the craft in order to succeed, but the one quality required of every writer is a compelling, original voice. Your voice, which is often difficult to define and even more difficult to master, can transform your writing from pedestrian to powerful. In Writing Voice, you'll discover effective instruction and advice from best-selling authors and instructors like Donal Maass, Adair Lara, Paula Munier, Dinty W. Moore, James Scott Bell, and many others, plus exercises, techniques, and examples for making your prose stand out, be it fiction or memoir. You'll learn how to: Explore the unique way you write Study the distinctive styles of other writers to create your own voice Understand the nuances of voice, including the importance of word choice Develop the right voice for your genre Craft excellent narration that will keep readers coming back Choose the proper voice for your nonfiction Constructing the voice that fits your style and your audience is paramount to crafting memorable, original work. Writing Voice gives you the tools to not only create that voice but perfect it.

Besides reading a #hobby I have is writing. It‘s fanfic and I only ever share it with my best friend so it‘s truly something I do for myself. Though I take it seriously and it can sometimes be frustrating but working out plot details, I do enjoy it and being creative.

TK-421 Awesome! It feels so good to write again after not doing it for awhile. If you are planning on doing Camp Nanowrimo in July, we have a Litsy cabin & you‘re welcome to join us! 😊 5y
CocoReads @tk-421 thank you. I‘m pretty on the fence about it. I‘ve been sitting stuff out because of work and we‘re still short handed so I‘m pretty much working all of the hours most of the days. I‘m going to decide in the next day or two so I‘ll let you know. 5y
TK-421 @CocoReads Sounds good. If you decide you‘re in I‘ll send you an invite. Totally understandable if you‘re not up for Camp this time. Hope your work situation improves soon! 5y

Doing some writing on this cold winter night. So cold actually I‘ve got a blanket covering my front and hands/keyboard as I type. Do any of my fellow writers do that? Oh and I‘ve got my kitty on my legs, but you can‘t see him over my screen 😂

Voice seems to be what my high school students struggle with the most. This book offers insight and advice while guiding the writer through finding his or her own voice. For day #eighteen, I am posting page 18 for #novemberbythenumbers. I highly recommend this book for writers and for teachers of writers. #teachersoflitsy #writersoflitsy
