Mary Rose Moreland and Simon Blake are the perfect couple: successful young professionals in Philadelphia, attractive, madly in love, and ready to start a life together. When they travel to England for Simon to ask her parents' permission to marry Mary Rose, he learns an unsettling secret: Mary Rose disappeared when she was a little girl while the family was vacationing on a remote Scottish island. She reappeared mysteriously thirty-three days later in the exact same spot without a scratch on her and no memory of what had happened. After Simon hears about this disturbing episode in Mary Rose's childhood, he becomes obsessed with finding out what happened. He proceeds to launch his own investigation and arranges during their honeymoon for them to visit the island where she disappeared. But as Mary Rose's behavior gets stranger after their engagement, the need for Simon to unlock the truth about her past grows even more urgent. What he uncovers is beyond his most terrifying fears. Mary Rose is author Geoffrey Girard's chilling and modern take on a classic ghost story originally written by J. M. Barrie. And for years, master of suspense Alfred Hitchcock attempted to adapt Mary Rose into a film but was never successful. With this novel, Girard taps into the nightmarish fears that inspired both Barrie and Hitchcock, while also bringing the story to the present day with his own unique voice.

This book is based on a play by JM Barrie, that inspired a movie by Hitchcock that never got made.
It‘s the story of a woman who disappeared as a child for 33 days - and doesn‘t remember anything from it.
Or does she?
Scottish islands, creepy houses, family secrets... this book has atmosphere in spades.
Enjoy it, and don‘t miss the Afterword to learn its connection to Hitchcock.

Finally finished. Took awhile. I think this book could have ripped out the first 100 pages and been just fine as a small novella. I didn't care a whole lot through it but once things started happening within the last 100 pages I didn't want to put it down. Nice creepy little ghost story, thriller for in October.

Taking a break from all the reading to learn a couple new stitches! (The hook is made by the speckled clay on Etsy!)

RedxoHearts Love the hook! 5y
RyeAnnUh @RedxoHearts thank you! Gotta love good ol Cheesy. :) 5y
DefLeppard @RyeAnnUh my little sis would love that hook, she adores crochet. Me and my elder sis are really into knitting. 😊 5y
RyeAnnUh @DefLeppard it takes a little getting used too because it's much bigger than a regular hook but I love it! Go check out The Speckled Clay on Etsy. She has so many! Plus she is getting all her Xmas hooks ready to order. 5y
DefLeppard @RyeAnnUh cool, thank you I will show my sister so she can browse. 😊 5y

... started reading this one tonight. Definitely going to stop reading it at night. I'm only 50 pages in and I'm creeped out. So... Time for a different book to read before bed. Any not super creepy ghost stories to read while it's still October?

alysonimagines I‘m a big fan of not super creepy ghost stories! Neil Gaiman‘s The Graveyard Book is a solid pick if you haven‘t read it before. 5y
RyeAnnUh @alysonwrites thank you! I'll look it up. :) 5y

Finished #audiobook while #audiopuzzling today. While a little too lengthy in parts, which I felt dragged out suspense, this is a creepy (ghost) story wherein horror lies at every turn. I doubt you'll guess where it goes, even if you know the OG play.
The afterword was amazing btw-so much info about largely Hitchcock's failure to put this on screen and his twisted background! I seem to be drawn to works related to Hitchcock lately...so Vertigo?😂

Also had no idea how new this story is-found it completely by accident!
