David Sedaris Diaries
David Sedaris Diaries: A Visual Compendium | David Sedaris, Jeffrey Jenkins
9 posts | 5 read | 1 to read
A remarkable illustrated volume of artwork and images selected from the diaries David Sedaris has been creating for four decades In this richly illustrated book, readers will for the first time experience the diaries David Sedaris has kept for nearly 40 years in the elaborate, three-dimensional, collaged style of the originals. A celebration of the unexpected in the everyday, the beautiful and the grotesque, this visual compendium offers unique insight into the author's view of the world and stands as a striking and collectible volume in itself. Compiled and edited by Sedaris's longtime friend Jeffrey Jenkins, and including interactive components, postcards, and never-before-seen photos and artwork, this is a necessary addition to any Sedaris collection, and will enthrall the author's fans for many years to come.

Saw David Sedaris tonight at Town Hall, where he gave away this pair of pants the guy who introduced him is wearing. Afterward there was a book signing by Sedaris and Akhil Sharma who was his guest this evening. It was a lot of fun and the signing was very friendly and personable.

Won free tickets from our local bookstore @TatteredCoverBookStore to see David live!! No photos during the show but they were great seats! Gotta love that dry sense of humor.

JacqMac His shows are so great! I hope you loved it. 6mo
Whimsical.Curiosity @JacqMac it was awesome! His diary entries and jokes crack me up. Someone asked him what makes him laugh and he responded "whenever someone falls down" 6mo
Cinfhen He‘s hilarious 6mo

Slight disconnect from the darkness of Sedaris' twenties and cute lambs on my #audiowalk

charl08 @Tanisha_A It's mostly potatoes grown around me, so I was quite surprised to see them. 7mo

lynneamch Love it! My daughter's new washer plays a little tune when it's done. Her kids ran to the window looking for the ice cream truck. 12mo
KarenUK @lynneamch Mine does too! It totally freaks my dogs out! 😂 12mo
Billypar I think I get the most animosity from my fridge...have definitely slacked in cleaning it and I'm sure it can't help but resent me for it 😹 12mo

On the Audible blog, they have an audio interview with David Sedaris. He names several of his favorite listens.I found it quite entertaining to hear what he likes to listen to, plus interesting that he prefers audio over print books.I think I‘ve listened to all of his books, plus read some in print. His books are good, but the audio is outstanding. Link for article : https://www.audible.com/blog/the-listening-life/david-sedaris-interview-calypso/

britt_brooke I love him! 1y
Kaye Me too. It‘d be great to see him in person. @britt_brooke 1y
britt_brooke @Kaye He‘s the only author I‘ve ever met. I‘ve seen him twice in Nashville and he did not disappoint. 💚 1y
Kaye Wow, are you lucky ! I‘ve never met an author. Gotten emails from a couple, but never been to a book signing. Something to put in my Dixie-cup List. At my age, I don‘t have a Bucket List. Just a Dixie Cup. @britt_brooke (edited) 1y

Mehso-so

I love peeking at peoples diaries and I love Sedaris but this book has a weird hushed and reverential tone that would be more fitting for a Cornell or Hopper retrospective. The quote above from the foreword is typical Sedaris wry humor but the rest of the book is dead serious and just seemed at odds with the funky assemblages and snippets of misspelled diary entries. Interesting but not essential

This arrived at the library today! I do love a visual diary and I'm especially excited to see what visually interests a mind like David Sedaris'. 🤔

TricksyTails That looks so cool! How did I not know of its existence?? I need to go look this up. (edited) 2y
Indexasaurus @tricksytails I know, right?! I had no idea until I returned from a meeting and saw it on our new books shelf! 2y
TricksyTails My library doesn't have it. I'm looking forward to see how you like it to see if I should save to buy it. (I spy with my little eye Rogues!) 2y
Indexasaurus @tricksytails I'm about halfway through as there's not much to read, mostly visual stuff, but I really like it. (And Rogues! 🤗GRRM just tweeted a link to a new one called The Book of Swords that has another story, I didn't know about that one, either! Learning all kinds of stuff today!). 2y
TricksyTails Oh, wow. My TBR is going to explode! 2y
