But as sleuths in an England recovering from the Great War, theyre the perfect match . . . 1920: Flying in the face of convention, legendary American adventuress Beryl Helliwell never fails to surprise and shock. The last thing her adoring public would expect is that she craves some peace and quiet. The humdrum hamlet of Walmsley Parva in the English countryside seems just the ticket. And, honestly, until America comes to its senses and repeals Prohibition, Beryl has no intention of returning stateside and subjecting herself to bathtub gin. For over three decades, Edwina Davenport has lived comfortably in Walmsley Parva, but the postWorld War I bust has left her in dire financial straits and forced her to advertise for a lodger. When her long-lost school chum Beryl arrives on her doorstepactually crashes into it in her red motorcarEdwina welcomes her old friend as her new roommate. But her idyllic hometown has a hidden sinister side, and when the two friends are drawn in, they decide to set up shop as private inquiry agents, helping Edwina to make ends meet and satisfying Beryls thirst for adventure. Now this odd couple will need to put their heads together to catch a killerbefore this sleepy English village becomes their final resting place . . . Advance praise for MURDER IN AN ENGLISH VILLAGE Youll love this delightful new series about two ladies of a certain age who refuse to let Societys expectations hold them back from bringing a killer to justice. Cozy mystery + squished hot cross bun = breakfast. I‘ve had poor luck with cozy mysteries lately, but this one‘s got a punchy prose style, interesting characters, and internal logic that doesn‘t depend on everyone throwing common sense out the window. No needless repetition yet, either! I‘m optimistic.

I was looking for another cozy mystery audiobook series and I‘m so glad I chose this one! Set in 1920 in the aftermath of WWI and the Spanish flu, there was surprisingly more humor than I was expecting. I love both Beryl & Edwina and they complement each other nicely and work well together. I love the setting. 5⭐️

Mehso-so

This was entertaining enough, but nothing special. I definitely did not suspect the culprit, as the information kept coming slowly. The characters were rather stereotypical, and much of the revelations smacked of melodrama, but I was in the mood for something light and fluffy, and it certainly fit that bill. Shout-out to the superb narration by Barbara Rosenblat. She made a believable full cast by herself! ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I liked this cozy historical mystery. I love that time frame - between the world wars, and the English village was a fun setting. Thanks @Lynnsoprano for posting about this a while ago!

Lynnsoprano You‘re quite welcome! I‘m glad you enjoyed it. I hope she writes another with these characters, as I really enjoyed them. 6y

This is an entertaining mystery. I consider it a cross between historical fiction and a cozy mystery. Beryl and Edwina are an unlikely but lovable pair of friends and sleuths. I suspect that this is the start of a series, and I look forward to their next adventure. The picture is of a village pub that we visited with our friends in Cambridgeshire.

Pamwurtzler Of course I had to put that on hold. It must be popular! 6y

I started this today, since it‘s going to be a busy week and I wanted something light. Besides, it‘s a great excuse to post pictures of some of the English villages we visited on our late summer trip. This is from Selworthy.
