Many of the babies born at the Ideal Maternity Home in East Chester, Nova Scotia, were not adopted. Instead they mysteriously disappeared, becoming known as butterbox babiesnamed after the grocery delivery boxes that they were buried in. Since Bette Cahill first wrote about this shocking truth in 1992, she continued to research the story and corresponded with many of the homes survivors. In this expanded edition, she shares her ongoing examination, revealing the sometimes happy, often heartbreaking endings of survivors searching for their birth parents.

I grew up with the dark history of the Ideal Maternity Home and the Butterbox Babies but it seems that it continues to be hidden under Nova Scotia's doormat even now. Murder, baby farming, baby trafficking and illegal adoptions are just the tip of the iceberg.

Hell yes! I am so freaking excited for today's #BookMail

I saw the documentary on Butterbox Babies so many years ago and I've been trying to find a copy of this book ever since. This part of NS history is one that no one ever talks about and has always fascinated me.

Putting aside until #scarathlon It might not be traditional true crime but given the content, I think I can count it
