Rabbit: a Memoir
Rabbit: a Memoir | Patricia Williams
8 posts | 8 read | 14 to read
That's how things go in the 'hood: It's a never ending cycle of trouble, and once it grabs you, it won't let go. Patricia started life on the lowest rung of society: poor, black, and female. With an alcoholic for a mother and four siblings, she was raised on a steady diet of welfare, food stamps and cigarette smoke. By the age of 13 she had two children, and by the age of 16 she was one of Atlanta's most successful crack dealers. Growing up in a family that had been stuck in the ghetto for generations, it seemed impossible Patricia would ever escape. But when she was shot be a rival drug dealer in front her own children, Patricia made the life-changing decision to turn it all around. With a combination of grit, stubbornness, anger and love - and the kindness of others - she fought to break the cycle of poverty for the next generation. Now a stand-up comedian, she lives the maxim that the best healing comes through humour.

“Most people I knew did drugs, sold drugs, or lived off drug dealer money.” I‘ve had this on my tbr for awhile but wasn‘t planning to read it anytime soon until I tried to read in time for Book Girl Magic discussion on Instagram. Unfortunately, a lot of people grow up like “Ms Pat” and don‘t turn out so well. She gives a glimpse inside her world through her comedy and this memoir.

WOW!!! This audio was incredible. Patricia Williams so honestly lays bare her story in the most engaging and compelling way. To survive the traumas and situations she faced so early in life was both mind-blowing and inspiring. Ms. Pat is a super star, and definitely the baddest bitch in the room.
Her audio narration was hilarious and heartbreaking.
I highly recommend this powerful memoir.
Definitely a five star listen🙌🏻🥰

Megabooks I gave it 5⭐️ as well!! Glad you loved it! 3y
Cinfhen Her story blew me away @Megabooks it‘s the first time I actually understood how selling drugs could honestly be the best option to alter one‘s situation! That‘s pretty effed-up!! 3y

Mehso-so

I‘m glad I did it, but wouldn‘t necessarily recommend it. There are too many great books to read. Sad, disturbing, funny, it‘s not going to be for everyone.
