A good time to remember Wilfred Owen as we approach Remembrance Day and the anniversary of the end of World War One. Many thanks to all people in the armed forces over the years who have given their lives to protect ours! Our heroes! #Marooned #QuotsyNov19

“My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori.”
— Wilfred Owen
11.11.11. It was 100 years ago today that the First World War ended.

I apologize if you can‘t read this tiny print. You can look it up on the Poetry Foundation website. #Smile, Smile, Smile by Wilfred Owen (better known for Dulce et Decorum Est) is a powerful poem. #poetryMatters @LazyDayz

I first read this in high school. I forgot who had written it (for years I thought it was Siegfried Sassoon) but the words continued to haunt me. Owen spoke of the "pity of war", warning against the popular conceptions of the "glory of war" & noble sacrifice. I still wonder why so many believe that #war is the answer. A century after this poem was written, we're still selling the lie "it is sweet and fitting to die for one‘s country". #QuotsyNov17

My current, last, and favorite #poetry books. I'm not far in Voyage, so no opinion yet. brown girl dreaming was amazing. There will always be a special place in my heart for Wilfred Owen and his most famous poem, Dulce et Decorum Est. 'The Parable of the Old Man and the Young' and 'At a Calvary near the Ancre' are also quite moving. #seasonsreadings2016 @RealLifeReading

charl08 School wrecked Owen for me. Such a shame! 7y
literarymermaid @charl08 Wrecked? Did they over explain? My husband had a lit class that attempted to do that and he ended up writing his final on it. 7y
utterKATEness Owen is so incredibly close to my heart, too! I've actually done most of my undergraduate research on Owen. 7y

Two months and countless hours pouring over source text later, my labor of love has paid off!! I'm so excited about getting the opportunity to present this paper! Wilfred Owen is one of my favorite poets, so this is honestly a dream come true. I'm also excited to be back in the land of the living (at least until next semester)!

Oh man, Litsy its been a while. I'm glad to be back, though if only briefly. I hope this photo is enough of an explanation for my absence. I'm swamped with school work and family obligations and I hope once the semester winds down I'll be back! I miss the Listy community! You are all so amazing! (feat. my very favorite litten, Trouble #catsofLitsy )

Litsy! I'm so sorry I've been MIA! I've missed this amazing community. At first I was just trying to stay focused on a research proposal coming due at the end of last week (The books pictured are source materials for my proposal), but then I caught the University Plague and I've been bedridden since Friday night! I'm feeling better, though, and I've done plenty of reading so I've got a lot to share!

bmsddk Hope things go smoothly for you here on out! 8y
utterKATEness @bmsddk Thank you! Fingers crossed I don't come down with another bout of "the plague" before the semester is out. 8y
