The Little Sister
The Little Sister | Raymond Chandler
6 posts | 22 read | 5 to read
The Little Sister focuses on popular private eye Philip Marlowe. When hired for an easy jobto find a seemingly innocent girl's older brotherMarlowe doesn't expect to find a trail of dead bodies or gangsters in love with movie stars. As he begins to solve the riddles surrounding his investigation, Marlowe discovers that in Hollywood, people will do anything to keep a clean reputation. From one of the original hardboiled detective writers, Raymond Chandler's Philip Marlowe is in a class of his own. Written after Raymond Chandlers stint as a Hollywood screenwriter, The Little Sister reflects Chandlers experience in the film industry, its corruption, and obsession with image. The Little Sister has been adapted for film and radio. Listened to another Marlowe audiobook with my husband. I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as the others, but it's still a pick because I enjoyed how grouchy Marlowe was.

Hard boiled detective fiction exploring (among other things) the underbelly of Hollywood. Seemingly innocent midwestern girls, Hollywood actresses, drug dealers, opportunists and mobsters. And Marlowe taken advantage of by a pretty face once again. :) Read for #booked2020 set in Hollywood prompt. @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft

Cinfhen Very 50s noir 🥰 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Unique pick for this prompt! 4y

#weeklyforecast Had hoped to finish tagged book last week but didn‘t quite get there. Hoping I can burn through the rest of it today and then polish off the other two this week. Winterdance should be a quick one.

#Hollywood ... Just a little tattered and worse for wear, based on that cover. 😀 #maybookflowers

This is the only Hollywoodish book that I think I have ... And a reminder that I need to read more Chandler.

batsy @EvieBee84 I love these Penguin editions ☺️ 7y
saresmoore I stumbled upon this post because I just read the reference to Chandler in Tam Lin. 😄 The Long Goodbye is Janet‘s other favorite. 4y
batsy @saresmoore The range of literature she enjoys and her opinions on them are honestly the highlight of the book, for me 😁 4y
