Live all you can; its a mistake not to. This is the maxim of celebrated author Henry James and one which his typist Frieda Wroth tries to live up to. Admiring of the great author, she nevertheless feels marginalized and undervalued in her role. But when the dashing Morton Fullerton comes to visit, Frieda finds herself at the center of an intrigue every bit as engrossing as the novels she types, bringing her into conflict with the flamboyant Edith Wharton, and compromising her loyalty to James. The Typewriters Tale by Michiel Heyns is a thought-provoking novel on love, art and life fully lived.

TODAY‘S PROMPT: ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

This post on my blog is about KNOWING how to type.

Check out what I have to say. :)

Someone else thinks it is not important to know how to type. 😡😡😡

https://silversolara.blogspot.com/2016/02/you-have-to-be-kidding-really.html

Sharpeipup This came up at work & I was the only person how can type. 6y
SilversReviews @Sharpeipup WOW...that is unbelievable. Do your co-workers wish they knew how to type? 6y
tournevis As if there is only onr way how to type. Not havong learned to type the secretarial way does not mean one does not know how to type. Two finger typing is ineffocoent as all get out, but it's still typing. This said, this article is wrong. Typing in a different way than the correct secretarial way is still typing. Anywho. 6y

tournevis This comment brought to you by thumb typing on my recently reset phone with crummy recently reset predictive typing. 😉 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Everyone needs to know how to type!!! #Hopintospring 6y
Sharpeipup Not really. 6y
vkois88 As we get more technologically based, it's just more efficient & makes more sense for everyone to know how to type... that being said, I haven't read the article yet, I just pulled it up to read after I finish catching up for the day. So idk what it says. I think that even if you peck at keys (I know plenty of people who do... sometimes it's easier on their hands), it's still typing. I happen to type the "pro" way bc it was forced on me in school 6y
SilversReviews @vkois88 😍 Typing correctly by the touch method is the most efficient. Thanks for commenting. 6y

Not exactly book related... It‘s a typewriter pillow! I found it at Walmart in the Valentine‘s Day sale items. It was only $2, so I couldn‘t resist. It‘s my new writing/reading pillow when I‘m sitting on my couch.

Love being in my childhood room with all my old books, my handmade feather pens, my grandfather's old typewriter, and the perfect lighting to write a cozy mystery if I had patience for that sort of thing.

Love tiny Franklin Library in suburban Detroit, MI. Still hand-stamping due dates by the warmth of a wood burning fire and offering readers an opportunity to leave personal comments inside book covers.

Here are examples of irksome* words used in this novel. After a while, I simply refused to look them up. Enough already! If I don't catch the meaning in context . . . oh well. 😒 The eReader dictionary doesn't matter. A reader shouldn't have to interrupt his flow so often to look up words. If this weren't an #ARC, I might have bailed. At least the storyline is developing. I finally started ignoring the #TenDollarWords. 🙄
* annoying

It started off kind of slow. And I got tired of tapping words for definitions. Trying my best to finish it. We'll see how it goes. Well, here's an exchange I found amusing. #ARC

Lesliereads Archaic words? 7y
Donna_sBookMinute @Lesliereads -- Not archaic words. Just $10 words when a $5 word would do. 7y

Even though Henry James is not my favorite -- to say the least -- I'm hoping to fall for his fictional typist. First line: "The worst part of taking dictation was the waiting." (The photo is a kaleidoscope of the book's cover.)

Lindy Love that photo! 7y
BethFishReads @Lindy thanks. It's a fun effect 7y

Given my last post, I laughed out loud when I read this blurb. Luckily I don't judge a book by its blurb. 😂🤣😂🤣
