The Needle in the Blood
The Needle in the Blood | Sarah Bower
6 posts | 6 read | 5 to read
His lust for power gave him everything. But it might cost him the love of his life. The Bishop hired her for a simple job: embroider a tapestry. It is an enormous work, a cloth trophy of the conquest of England. But her skill with a needle and thread is legendary. It would be uncomplicated. She plans to kill him as soon as she gets the chance. He and his brother, William the Conqueror, murdered her King and destroyed her world. Revenge, pure and clean. It would be simple. But neither planned to fall desperately in love. As the two become hopelessly entangled, friends become enemies, enemies become lovers, and nothing in lifeor the tapestryis what it seems. An unlikely love story born of passion and intensity, crafted by critically acclaimed historical novelist Sarah Bower,The Needle in the Blood is a "story of love, war, and the tangled truth of England's birth." Praise for Sarah Bower's Sins of the House of Borgia "Sizzling." USA Today "The sheer grandeur of the papal and Ferrara courts and the spectacle of the Borgia and Ferrara siblings' rivalries and revenges form a glittering take on one of the most notorious families of the Italian Renaissance." Publisher's Weekly "Bower brilliantly merges history with politics and convincing characters to draw readers into a lush and colorful tapestry of Renaissance life...This powerful piece of fiction ranks with some of the finest of the genre." This is another book I own but have never read. #tbr Set in Normandy, France-ish. I think it may jump around to England but it‘s definitely a #booksetinanothercountry #AprilinBooks18 @bookisglee This book appears to be a historical romance novel about the tapestry of Bayeux which I find fascinating. This is as close as I get to owning a tapestry. Haha!!

readordierachel Sounds intriguing! 6y

Bailedbailed

I feel like I've bailed on so many books lately. Here's another one for the abandoned pile. It's been 133 pages and it feels like nothing is happening.

Just got back from a lovely walk in the snow and now it's time to curl up with my book and a cup of tea before bed.

WarpedSweetness Lovely walk in the snow? *Shudders* But tea and a book sounds good! 6y
danibolahood @WarpedSweetness lol it's the first real snow fall this year so the novelty hasn't worn off yet. I'm sure I'll be singing a different tune after actually having to be out in it tomorrow 6y
WarpedSweetness @danibolahood I can't even get excited about the first snow. I am just not a snow or cold person. Lol The only good thing is that I can wrap myself in my winter comforter without people questioning me. 6y

A new reading chair and I book I've been dying to read. Hello Saturday night! All I need now is pizza.

vkois88 That sounds delicious. I already miss pizza. We just started a low carb diet :/ 6y
danibolahood @vkois88 I'm not going to lie. I'm technically on a low carb diet at the moment. For someone reason it stops existing on Saturdays... And not working particularly well lol 6y
vkois88 It really hard right now bc I'm trying to get into it and here we are at the holidays. 6y
danibolahood @vkois88 oh I know. It's such a hard time of year with all the food and goodies. Good for you sticking with it though! 6y

I've stumbled onto this book about the "Bayeux Tapestry" which is a large surviving embroidery that tells the story of the triumphs of William the Conqueror. I love learning about things I didn't know. This panel shows Odo, the Bishop who most say commissioned the work (and was Regent for his brother William), and Aelfgytha, who seems to have embroidered it and depicted herself-and Odo-in it. ? Fun stuff. This is my brain candy.

LeahBergen I read this! It's a good one. 😀 7y
Texreader I ❤️ learning about these sorts of things too! I read about it in 7y
Sydsavvy @LeahBergen I'm so not surprised! @Texreader I meant to read that! Thanks for the reminder 😊 7y
