Carry On, Warrior
Carry On, Warrior: The Real Truth about Being a Woman | Glennon Melton
Be inspired and empowered by Carry on, Warrior by Glennon Melton. Here's my hunch: nobody's secure, and nobody feels like she completely belongs. Those insecurities are just job hazards of being human. But some people dance anyway, and those people have more fun. On my deathbed, I'm not gong to wish I had danced like JLo; I'm just going to wish I had danced more.On Mother's Day, 2002, Glennon Melton was unmarried, addicted to drugs, booze, food and bad love. Her criminal record had grown steadily more muddied in her desperate quest for escapism. But by a strange twist of fate, it was on this day that she discovered she was pregnant. After twenty years of wilful self-destruction, how could Glennon rise to the challenge of looking after the helpless, innocent child growing within her, when she couldn't even look after herself? This is the inspiring story of Glennon Melton, the mother who, for the love of her child, was determined to change her life forever. Carry on, Warrior is a true woman's book, which touches on the universal themes of friendship, marriage and family in a way that is unique and enlightening.Glennon Melton lives in the US with her husband Craig, her three beautiful children Chase, Tish and Amma -- and their beloved dog Theo. She has an enormous following for her blog and website Momastry, and as a recovering alcoholic and bulimic she views writing as a form of healing. Her charity Monkee See - Monkee Do is dedicated to helping struggling parents to provide a better life for themselves and their children.

Finished my third book for #BookSpinBingo. Feels strange reading her books out of order but it helps me piece together her story.

I finished this book last week. I really enjoyed it. The only thing that bothered me was that some of the stories/essays were out of chronological order. Other then that, AMAZING book!

“Keep good books within reach. Start with Traveling Mercies. David Sedaris is good too. If you don‘t have any good books, go to the library. If you don‘t have a library card, apply for one. This will #stress you out. You will worry that the librarian will sense that you are a disaster and reject you. Listen: they don‘t know, and they don‘t care. They gave me a card, and I‘ve got a rap sheet as long as your arm.”

Bought a ticket to see Glennon Doyle weeks ago, and was not looking forward to having to put on real clothes today. 😉 But now- glad I am here. I have heard her speak before and she is wonderful.

kgriffith I‘d just be on the lookout for a glimpse of Abby... 😏😉 6y
AmberWB @kgriffith She was there!!! She was the special guest who came out to introduce Glennon! Pretty awesome. 😊 6y

Inflammation flare up this week - spending quiet time today with this book from the library! Looks like a book I will finish in one sitting ... maybe. Update: finished it ... hated the fact it was cheap paperback edition - the feel of the crappy paper it was printed on certainly detracts from the experience. It did not live up to reviews at all. Disappointed!

rustoryhuf I read her first book and got some nuggets from her words. This one, I bailed on, so I know exactly how you feel. 6y
BookwormM Being nosy feel free not to say what causes your flare up? I have Ankylosing Spondylitis and the heatwave in the UK is terrible for me 6y
MelAnn @BookwormM I have a strain of Epstein Barr Virus that does not stay dormant - it reactivates and have yet to figure out what triggers it. Then when it does it‘s thing, the inflammation occurs. Right now it affects a pinched major nerve and I can‘t walk when it flares up & puts pressure on that nerve. 6y

RavenLovelyReads I agree- the book was a total let down for me too. I seriously thought I was the only person that didn‘t like it. 6y

Not my usual read, but my wife suggested it as good discussion for marriage-related topics. It was a pleasant surprise. I laughed quite a bit and found it very honest. It reads quick as it is mostly blog posts from Momastery.com and, since it's a few years old, it makes interesting reading if you know what happens after the book's publication.

1. Done. Not my typical read.
2. I always read but when I was in law school reading for pleasure wasn‘t really an option. So after law school, I rediscovered my love of reading for pleasure and now it‘s what I most enjoy.
3. Right before bedtime.
4. So many - Harry Potter, The Monkey Wrench Gang, Hitchhiker‘s Guide. I could go on & on.

I was looking forward to this, but found the Christianity parts too heavy-handed and some of the language and ideas around needing relationships grating. The parts I liked reminded me of Tiny Beautiful Things... except I liked Strayed's writings better. I can see why this would be a great set of heartfelt essays for some, but it just wasn't for me.

Notafraidofwords I really didn't like her recent book all that much. I struggled through it. 7y

I loved this. If you are not a Christian (I consider myself a hopeful agnostic), the Christianity part can feel a bit heavy-handed, but there is so much good stuff in here! Her attitudes toward love and shame and parenting are relatable and refreshing.
