Midnight Jewel
Midnight Jewel | Richelle Mead
In the second installment of the bestselling Glittering Court series, Richelle Mead goes beyond the glitz and glamour, delving into the dark, political underbelly of their world through the eyes of one girl who dares to fight for her freedom. A refugee of war, Mira was cast out of her home country and thrust into another, where the conditions were inhospitable at best. In a life-altering twist of fate, she is given the chance to escape once more, and she takes it, joining the Glittering Court. For a select group of girls, the Glittering Court offers a shot at a life they've only ever dreamed of, one of luxury, glamour, and leisure. But for Mira, it means further persecution, not only from her fellow Glittering Court jewels, but from her suitors, as well--men she would potentially be expected to give her life to. By day, she goes through the motions, learning the etiquette and customs that will help to earn her anonymity, even making a couple true friends in the process, the forthright ladies' maid Adelaide and the ambitious laundress Tamsin. But by night, Mira hatches a different plan entirely--one that, if exposed, could get her hanged in the highest court of Adoria. Midnight Jewel is the extraordinary story of a girl with few options who courageously forges a new path, finding love, passion, lifelong friendships, and maybe even a way to freedom.

I had enjoyed the story of "The Glittering Court" and was excited for this read. Mira seemed like the most interesting character and I knew that her story would be great. And it was- eventually. The story takes place during the same events of "The Glittering Court" and some of the beginning dragged when I already knew what happened. However, since we hit the girls get on the boat, the two characters are separated and Mira finally gets her story.

Man these books are frustrating...but I LOVE the characters. There is so much grow with each character, and I genuinely cheer them on throughout the story. But...the pacing is so weird! I get what Mead is doing, three books each from the perspective of one of three young women, all on the same timeline. But something still doesn‘t quite work for me even now after reading the second. I suppose I‘ll have to@read the next one then! 😂🤦🏻‍♀️♥️

A book that starts with M: Midnight Jewel. I‘m a bit behind posting that as I have already read a chunk outta this. Midnight Jewel is the second book in the Glittering Court series. I enjoyed the first book but had issues with the pacing. However each book in the series is written from a different POV which is cool...but I was looking for the next books to fill the holes. So far the pacing on this book is even worse

Mira is a member of the Glittering Court by day, and works as both a spy and a pirate by night. So adventurous! I liked this one just slightly less than the first, mostly because it is missing the time spent in the frontier part of this big world. This story runs parallel in time to the first book, which is really cool as it not only tells Mira‘s story but adds new info to some of what I already knew from the first book. Audio is really great.

My current audiobook! Second in the Glittering Court series, I read/listened to the first book (👇🏻) last week and loved it. Features a different character, so it‘s a companion story. Instead of picking up after the first book, it runs parallel to the first story. Which is very cool. Definitely not a rehashing of the first book, which is always a worry with a series structure like this. Enjoying it so much!

Slowly making my way through Midnight Jewel. Just over half way and really wanting to finish it. Doesn't help I keep getting distracted by films 🙂

First audiobook of 2018 complete ✔

I started this series last year, and since I'm declaring 2018 as "the year of finishing the things" (i.e. all the series' I started, and then never got back to...) I thought this would be a great place to start.

It's fun, and has some exciting moments - a good way to ease into the new year. #LitsyAtoZ

I enjoyed this one but felt like I had to read it simultaneously with a reread of The Glittering Court to see connections and remember what all had happened. I found it strange that this happens parallel to The Glittering Court rather than as a sequel but I think I liked Mira's story in this book more than Adelaide's in the first.

Still not sure how I feel about this one. It was a little confusing, and a little all over the place, but it had some great themes....... 🤷‍♀️

Mira, of the Glittering Court, is a war refugee fighting injustice her own way. Learning fancy etiquette by day and donning a mask at night to fight evil and corruption with none the wiser. She is my #CleverGirl

This gorgeous lady will forever be one of my favourite authors. I don't think it's fair to other authors just how well *and* how much she writes. I've yet to read a book of hers I haven't REALLY enjoyed, and I've read a *lot* of her books. If you've never read a Richelle Mead book, ask me for suggestions! She writes young adult & adult books, mostly urban fantasy. ✌🏻📚

I was really hesitant about this book near the beginning (it was a tad slow) but now I love this vigilante twist to the story! Also what a wonderful ship to root for! Definitely check out this book.
