Forty Thieves
Forty Thieves | Thomas Perry
From Thomas Perry, the New York Times bestselling author of the Jane Whitefield series, comes a whip-smart and lethally paced standalone novel, Forty Thieves. Sid and Ronnie Abel are a first-rate husband-and-wife detective team, both retirees of the LAPD. Ed and Nicole Hoyt are married assassins-for-hire living in the San Fernando Valley. Except for deadly aim with a handgun, the two couples have little in commonuntil they are both hired to do damage control on the same murder case. The previous spring, after days of torrential rain, a body was recovered from one of the citys overwhelmed storm sewers. The victim was identified as James Ballantine, a middle-aged African-American who worked as a research scientist for a prestigious company and was well liked by his colleagues. But two bullets to the back of the head looked like nothing if not foul play. Now, with the case turning cold, Ballantines former employers bring in the Abels to succeed where the police have failed, while the Hoyts mysterious contractors want to make sure that the facts about Ballantines death stay hidden. As the book races toward a high-octane climax, the Abels must fend for their own lives as they circle ever closer to the truth.

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 Two married couples: Sid and Ronnie Abel, ex-cops turned PIs; and Ed and Nicole Hoyt, assassins for hire. Both couples are on opposite sides of a murder with the Abels trying to figure out who killed James Ballantine and the Hoyts trying to make sure the murder remains unsolved. Interesting premise that works. Lots of characters to keep track of but the action and fast pace keeps readers engaged. #litsybythenumbers #40

Cranky because this greeted me when I left for work this morning. They only got my card playing change but there was probably $20 worth of change and I clearly forgot to lock last night but I'm totally over living in my neighborhood. This isn't the first time this has happened.

ValerieAndBooks Ugh! So sorry😔 7y
LittleWonder Sorry this happened. Make sure to file a report to the police! 7y
CocoReads @LittleWonder I know who did it--a police report won't help. But at least they didn't break anything. 7y

LittleWonder @CocoReads Ok. Well, maybe for insurance then? Either way, I'm sorry that this happened to you. 7y
bookwrm526 So sorry that happened 🙁 7y
Reviewsbylola This happens every time I don't lock my doors at night. So frustrating! I'm sorry it happened to you. 7y
CocoReads Thank you. We have been talking about moving-we have sort of a rough 5 year plan. We may need to escalate it. I should amend that I'm pretty sure I know who did it-i can't be totally sure. We filed with police the first time it happened and that wasn't helpful at all-except for there was more damage and things taken so insurance was helpful then. 7y
CocoReads Since every time since they've just taken pocket change I haven't sweated it but they really had to dig for my card money this time since I don't keep it in plain sight. I'm probably gonna let it go--this time. 7y
CocoReads @ValerieAndBooks @LittleWonder @bookwrm526 @Reviewsbylola thank you all for the sympathy. I needed to vent! I'm gonna let it go so my blood pressure returns to normal. I have a fun husbandless weekend coming up and I want to enjoy it! 7y
alisiakae I'm sorry you have to deal with that. (edited) 7y
CocoReads Thanks. I partly blame myself forcleaving the car unlocked, but I mostly blame the kid across the road because I'm pretty sure it's him or one of his druggie friends. We've had some problems with them before. 7y
cobwebmoth Sorry this happened. We had it happen several times where we lived last. I couldn't understand why they always took our cheap sunglasses, though. 7y
CocoReads @cobwebmoth that's a puzzler all right. Now that ZZ Top song is in my head. Thanks for that. 7y
Balibee146 Oh no xxx 7y
JessClark78 Sorry this happened to you. 😔 7y

Smangela Ugh! I'm so sorry! That's awful :( 7y
Jinjer So sorry! Vandals broke into my car once...didn't find any money or anything but they stole the parts of the car that make it run...like the car's computer system, etc. 😢 7y
CocoReads Yikes @Jinger years ago they broke into my husbands truck and took the stereo but since then it's just been pocket change and making a mess. Annoying but not a big deal in the grand scheme of things 7y
